🦪 'TWAS THE WEEK BEFORE OYSTER Festival 🦪
A Little Festival Tale from MXSO

'Twas the week before Oyster Festival, and all through the town,
The folks were preparing for the big shutdown.
The deputies were ready, their plans all in place,
For the crowds and the traffic and the festival pace!

The oysters were waiting, excitement was near,
And the busiest weekend of fall would soon be here.
But before you head out for some festival cheer,
We've got a few reminders we'd like you to hear!

On Friday at five, the west side will close,
At six on the east, as the festival grows.
Come Saturday morning, by nine or before,
The roads will be closing to traffic once more!

On the east and the west, there's parking in store,
Twenty dollars per car, per day, nothing more.
But mind where you park, or your car may be towed,
Those signs aren't suggestions along the road!

For handicap parking, we've got you in mind,
On the west side of town, there's a spot you can find.
At Red Hill and Virginia, that's where you should steer,
So you can enjoy all the festival cheer!

On the east side of town, there's a shuttle to ride,
To help festival visitors get safely inside.
Two dollars suggested per person, per ride,
Then off to the oysters and festivities inside!

If you've lost your belongings, don't worry or frown,
There's an information trailer right here in town.
At Rappahannock and Virginia, that's where it will be,
For questions or lost and found, stop by and see!

And as for your pups, though we love them, it's true,
The festival's no place for your four-legged crew.
So leave them at home, safe and sound for the day,
While you enjoy oysters, they'll snooze away!

And golf carts, dear friends, though they're handy and small,
Inside the festival? Not allowed at all!
So leave them behind, don't give us a reason,
To remind you again this Oyster Festival season!

Friday at seven, the fire trucks will shine,
As the Firemen's Parade rolls along in a line.
Then Saturday at two, there's more fun in store,
As the Oyster Festival Parade brings cheers galore!

So come for the oysters, the music, the cheer,
And the friends and the neighbors you see every year.
Be patient, be kind, and enjoy all the sights,
While we work to keep everyone safe day and night.

And when the last oyster is eaten, the crowds out of sight,
And the streets of Urbanna grow quiet for the night,
You'll hear us exclaim, as the weekend is through,
"Happy Oyster Festival, from all of MXSO's crew!"🦪

📌 Before heading into town, check out our attached Q&A graphics for road closures, parking, parade times, and other important festival information or visit Urbanna Oyster Festival!

🎃 A big thank you to Middlesex Elementary School and their dedicated PTO for inviting us to be part of their Trunk or Treat event!

Deputy Wyatt, Det. Randall, Sgt. Faison and K9 Roxy had a great time seeing all the costumes, handing out treats, and spending time with the kids and families!

We always enjoy getting out into the community, especially when it's this much fun! Thanks for including us! 🎃

🚨 MXSO FRAUD AWARENESS SERIES: REPORT IT!

Over the past few posts, we've been talking about financial fraud and how to protect yourself from becoming a victim.

First, we introduced the TRAP Test...a simple way to recognize the warning signs of a scam.

Then we talked about how to INTERRUPT IT: STOP. HANG UP. VERIFY. Because sometimes the best way to avoid becoming a victim is to end the conversation before the scammer has a chance to succeed.

But what happens when you don't recognize the TRAP until it's too late?

Maybe you sent the money. Maybe you shared personal information. Maybe you realized afterward that the person you trusted wasn't who they claimed to be.

What you do next matters.

One of the most important steps you can take is reporting internet-enabled fraud to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

🧩 YOUR REPORT COULD BE THE MISSING PIECE.

Here's why:

When you submit a complaint to IC3, that information becomes part of a much larger collection of reports from victims across the country.

The phone number used to contact you, the email address, the bank account where you sent money, or even the name the scammer used could be connected to other cases.

Your report helps law enforcement connect the dots.

IC3 analyzes complaints to identify patterns, track criminal activity, and share information with law enforcement agencies for potential investigation.

And if money has been stolen, time matters. Contact your financial institution immediately, notify us (or your applicable local law enforcement agency), and submit your IC3 complaint as soon as possible! Quick action may improve the chances of recovering stolen funds.

📌 REPORT INTERNET-ENABLED FRAUD HERE:

Keep any text messages, emails, screenshots, receipts, transaction information, and other evidence that may help investigators.

And please remember: Don't let embarrassment or the belief that your case is too small keep you from reporting it.

You may never know how your information helps, but your report could be the connection investigators need to identify a larger criminal operation or help protect someone else.

RECOGNIZE IT. INTERRUPT IT. REPORT IT.

Stay tuned for the next post in this series....BREAK the SILENCE 🗣️

🌟 Little Learners, Big Smiles, and Community Connections! 🚜🐾🚓

Last week was filled with some wonderful opportunities to connect with the youngest members of our community!

On October 7th, our deputies had the pleasure of participating in Middlesex Farm Day at Corbin Hall Farm, where third-grade students from Middlesex and Mathews had the opportunity to explore agriculture, learn about different professions, and enjoy some hands-on experiences.

Then, on October 9th, we joined the Pre-K and Kindergarten students at Middlesex Elementary School for Community Helpers Day. Students got to meet Detective Randall and K-9 Roxy, learn a little about Roxy's important duties, and get an up-close look inside Deputy Wyatt's patrol vehicle! 🐕🚔

These events are important to us because they about so much more than showing off equipment or answering questions. Events like these are about building friendships, creating positive experiences, and helping children understand that the people behind the badges are here for them.

A big thank-you to Virginia Cooperative Extension and everyone involved in Middlesex Farm Day, as well as Middlesex Elementary School, for inviting us to be part of these wonderful events!

We're grateful for every opportunity to connect with our community, especially its youngest members. 💙

Middlesex is more than where we serve. It's our community!
