The Samson Volunteer Fire Department would like to sincerely thank the Samson Masonic Lodge for hosting a supper this evening in honor of our local first responders.

We are extremely grateful for the continued support shown by our local Masonic Lodge, as well as the many businesses, organizations, and citizens who support the firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and law enforcement officers who serve our community.

As we gather in fellowship tonight, we are also mindful of what tomorrow represents.

On September 11, 2001, our Nation was cowardly attacked. We remember the innocent lives lost and honor the first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation, many making the ultimate sacrifice.

Tomorrow, we honor their courage, their sacrifice, and the families who continue to carry the loss of that tragic day.

Just after 7pm tonight Samson Fire and Samson Rescue was dispatched to a overturned single vehicle wreck on Columbus Holley with injuries. Samson Fire Engine 31 and Supply 34 along with Samson Rescue responded to the scene to find one patient with minor injuries that had self extracted from the vehicle. Samson rescue personnel began treatment of the patient and Samson Fire secured the vehicle, disabled the battery and stood by until ALEA Troopers arrived. The scene was turned over to law enforcement.

Behind every volunteer firefighter is a team of people who may never wear the uniform, but they serve our community just the same.

To the spouses who put family time on hold when the pager sounds… thank you.

To the children who understand when Mom or Dad has to leave the dinner table or miss a special moment… thank you.

To the parents, family members, friends, and employers who encourage and support our volunteers… thank you.

To our Mayor, City Council, and city administration for believing in our department and providing the support we need to serve… thank you.

And to our community, thank you for your trust, your encouragement, your donations, your prayers, and your understanding when the alarm sounds.

A perfect example was yesterday’s house fire. While our volunteers were battling the fire in the extreme summer heat, their spouses and children quietly stepped in to support them—bringing extra water and ice to the scene, helping with firefighter rehab, and making sure our crews stayed hydrated and safe. As we returned to the station after several hours on scene, family members traveled to McDonald’s in Geneva to bring food to our exhausted firefighters. These acts may seem small to some, but to those on the fireground, they mean everything.

This is just one example of the incredible support we receive during extended incidents. Volunteer fire departments are built on more than the men and women who answer the call. They are built on the countless unseen people who stand behind them every day, making our service possible.

To every spouse, child, family member, city official, employer, supporter, and community member—you may not ride the fire truck, but you are an essential part of this department.

We appreciate all of you. We simply could not do what we do without you. Thank you for standing with us.

This morning at approximately 10:15 a.m., the Samson and FGHR (Flat Creek) Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 900 block of Mixon Miller Road.

While responding, firefighters could see a large column of heavy smoke from several miles away. Samson Engine 35 arrived to find approximately half of the residence fully involved in flames. Crews immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack to stop the fire’s progression and protect the remaining portion of the home.

Samson Tanker 32 and Flat Creek Engine 91 arrived shortly after to assist with fire suppression efforts. Due to the extreme summer heat and physically demanding conditions, Coffee Springs Fire Department was requested for additional manpower, responding with Engine 72 and Brush 74.

After nearly three hours of firefighting operations, all units returned to service around 1:10 p.m.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Samson Rescue for providing medical evaluation and treatment to several firefighters both on scene and again after returning to the station for heat-related issues.

Today’s incident serves as another reminder of the dedication of our volunteer firefighters, who leave their jobs, homes, and families to protect our community—often while working in some of the most challenging conditions imaginable.

We also thank FGHR (Flat Creek), Coffee Springs Fire Department, Samson Rescue, and everyone who assisted during today’s incident. Everyone’s teamwork and commitment made a difference.

Afternoon Storm Causes Road Blockage

At approximately 3:35 p.m. today, two large trees fell across Alabama Highway 52 east of town near Lewis Road, completely blocking the roadway.

Volunteer firefighters responded and discovered three vehicles trapped between the two fallen trees. Fortunately, none of the occupants were injured, and the vehicles were not damaged.

Firefighters began cutting and removing the trees from the roadway. Due to the size of the second tree, the Alabama Department of Transportation responded with a backhoe to assist with the removal.

After approximately an hour and a half of work, the trees were removed and the roadway was reopened to traffic.

Wishing everyone a Happy and Safe 4th of July!

Attic Fire Quickly Contained on East Emily Street

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, Samson and FGHR-Flat Creek Volunteer Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of East Emily Street.

Samson Engine 35 arrived on scene and reported an active attic fire with moderate to heavy smoke showing. Samson Tanker 32, Supply 34, and FGHR-Flat Creek Engine 91 arrived shortly thereafter to assist with fire suppression efforts.

Firefighters manually ventilated the roof to release heat and smoke and removed sections of the interior ceiling to access and extinguish hidden fire within the attic space.

Through the coordinated efforts of both volunteer departments, crews were able to rapidly contain the fire and prevent further extension, minimizing property damage despite severe weather conditions.

The Samson Fire Department extends its appreciation to the Samson Police Department and Samson Rescue for their assistance and support on scene.

No injuries were reported.
