Winter is on the way! ❄️

Join us tomorrow, October 24th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Independence Hall for a Winter Preparedness Event focused on living safely and confidently in the Sierra.

Learn how to prepare for winter storms, wildfire emergencies, power outages, and the unique challenges of mountain living.

CCWD will also be there to share what it takes to keep water and sewer service operating when heavy snow starts falling and conditions become difficult.

Behind the scenes, our crews work around the clock through snow, ice, and challenging weather to help ensure your water keeps flowing and your toilets keep flushing.

Stop by, ask questions, meet local agencies, and learn how to be better prepared for whatever Mother Nature has in store this winter.

We hope to see you there!

Monthly Billing Is Coming in 2027

Over the coming months, CCWD will be sharing information to help customers prepare for the transition to monthly billing.

Today, customers receive a bill every two months. As we prepare for monthly billing, we'll be sharing information about current charges, account tools, and other helpful resources.

We begin with a look at current bi-monthly sewer service charges and their monthly equivalent to help put today's costs into monthly terms.

The current sewer service charge is:

$312.68 every two months

Which is equivalent to:

$156.34 per month

What Does Sewer Service Support?

Sewer service supports the infrastructure and operations required to safely collect and treat sewer, including:

• Sewer pipelines
• Lift stations
• Wastewater treatment facilities
• Environmental compliance and monitoring
• System maintenance and repairs
• Emergency response and operational readiness

These facilities and services must operate continuously to protect public health and the environment.

Why Is There a Base Charge?

Providing sewer service requires a complex collection and treatment system that must be available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Whether sewer flows are higher or lower, CCWD must maintain treatment facilities, pumping stations, pipelines, monitoring systems, and the equipment needed to safely collect and treat wastewater.

We begin with a look at current bi-monthly water service charges and their monthly equivalent to help put today's costs into monthly terms.

The current water base charge is:

$184.23 every two months

Which is equivalent to:

$92.11 per month

In addition to the base charge, water usage is billed separately based on the amount of water used during the two-month billing period.

Current Water Usage Rates

Water usage is measured in 100 cubic foot units, with each unit equal to approximately 748 gallons.

Tier 1
0 - 1,500 cubic feet (0 - 11,220 gallons)
$2.82 per 100 cubic feet (748 gallons)
Approximately $0.0038 per gallon

Tier 2
1,501 - 3,000 cubic feet (11,229 - 22,443 gallons)
$3.05 per 100 cubic feet (748 gallons)
Approximately $0.0041 per gallon

Tier 3
More than 3,000 cubic feet (more than 22,443 gallons)
$3.39 per 100 cubic feet (748 gallons)
Approximately $0.0045 per gallon

The highest water usage rate is less than one-half cent per gallon.

Why Is There a Base Charge?

Providing reliable water service involves much more than the amount of water used each month.

Before a single gallon reaches your tap, CCWD must operate and maintain water treatment facilities, storage tanks, wells, pumps, pipelines, meters, and monitoring equipment. The system must be ready to deliver safe, reliable drinking water every day of the year, whether water use is high or low.

The base charge helps support the ongoing costs of maintaining and replacing infrastructure, meeting water quality standards, ensuring emergency preparedness, and maintaining fire flow capacity for the protection of homes, businesses, schools, and our communities.

These costs exist regardless of how much water is used because the system must always be available whenever customers turn on the tap or firefighters need water to respond to an emergency.
