Severe storms may impact areas mainly west of a Throckmorton to Abilene to Ozona line this afternoon and tonight. The main concerns will be damaging wind gusts, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Dangerous cloud to ground lightning will also accompany any storms that develop.

City offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 12, in observance of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day. Trash services will not be affected.

Animal Services
The San Angelo Animal Shelter will be closed Monday, Oct. 12. Call the after-hours emergency line at 325-657-4315 in the event of an animal emergency.

Fort Concho
Fort Concho, including the Barracks 1 Visitor Center, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday for self-guided tours. Admission rates to see the exhibit buildings are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and military, $2 for children ages 7-17 and free for kids 6 and younger. For more information, call Fort Concho at 325-481-2646.

On Monday, San Angelo joined Monica Kelsey and Safe Haven Baby Boxes to raise awareness of a resource that can save a child’s life and give a parent in crisis a safe, anonymous option.

This is about compassion, not judgment. It’s about making sure that anyone who feels they have nowhere else to turn knows there is a safe place and a community that cares about their child’s life. Whatever the circumstances, whatever burden you’re carrying and whatever obstacles you face, the Safe Haven Baby Box is worth the trip.

Chadbourne Street construction update: Oct. 9

College intersection
• Roadway demolition is complete.
• Current work includes utility line and meter relocations and road base construction.
• Construction will begin on the west side and move east in phases.
• A Frontier Fiber vault was found in intersection and will have to be lowered. Will require unforeseen work but shouldn’t impact timeline.
• Work is expected to be fully complete within the first week of December.

Beauregard to Harris
• Fully open to traffic.
• Street lighting scheduled for month of October.
Harris to College
• Open to traffic from the south.
• Parking striping will be applied later in project.
• Street lighting scheduled for month of October.

Harris intersection
• Fully open to traffic.
• Signals scheduled for month of October.

Additional information
• After College intersection, work will start on the 2nd Street intersection.

San Angelo Animal Services is partnering with Operation Kindness to host a community spay and neuter event from Nov. 13-15. Location is TBD.

Registration is open through Oct. 22 or until spaces fill. To register, fill out the registration application at https://cosatx-animal-services.form.transform.civicplus.com/spay-neuter-initiative. Selected applicants will be contacted with appointment details.

Eligibility requirements:
Must reside within San Angelo city limits
Pets must be at least 4 months old
Dogs must weigh 70 pounds or less. XL breeds are not eligible
Pets must be microchipped and registered with the City of San Angelo
Limit of 1 pet per household
An appropriately sized wire crate is required for each pet

*Priority will be given to residents in identified dense pet population neighborhoods.
