Law enforcement agencies across the nation will join May 10–16, 2026, in recognition of National Police Week, a time dedicated to honoring the service, commitment, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers who protect and serve their communities every day.
National Police Week serves as an opportunity to recognize the professionalism, courage, and dedication demonstrated daily by officers, dispatchers, and public safety personnel. The week also pays tribute to those officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and acknowledges the families, friends, and colleagues who continue to support the law enforcement profession.
National Police Week was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls as National Police Week.
The University Police Department encourages community members to take time during National Police Week to recognize the dedication of law enforcement professionals and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
