As you spring forward your clocks today don't forget to test your smoke detectors and change the batteries if necessary. Almost three out of five house fire deaths were caused by properties with no smoke detectors or smoke detectors that failed to operate.

Reminder, the leading cause of firefighters coming to visit your house on Thanksgiving is people trying to deep fry a turkey. Here are some rules.
Remember:
1. Your bird must be thawed and preferably at room temperature.
2. The oil does not have to be to the top of the pot. Usually a half full pot is more than enough. To determine the oil level, You can put the turkey in your frying pot and fill the pot with water to about 2 inches above the turkey. Pull the turkey out and mark the water level. Dump the water out and fill up the pot with peanut oil to the level you marked on the pot. 350 degrees is the optimum cooking temperature.
3. Never leave the fryer unattended.
4. Keep fryer away from the house and never in the garage or under a covered porch when cooking.
5. Place the turkey in the fryer slowly. Reread #1 before doing so.
6. Keep all children at a safe distance and close to a phone preferably well versed in calling 911 and able to recite you address.
7. Have an ABC (not water) extinguisher handy.
8. NEVER EVER fry your turkey on the stovetop. I say this because it has happened.
Stay Safe!
