“REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!”

03/06/2021

On this day in 1836 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel William Barret Travis the Alamo falls to the Mexican forces of General Santa Anna. Approximately 200 Texian volunteers defended the fortifications against the overwhelming force of 1,500 Mexican Soldiers. For 13 days the Alamo was under siege until the final assault the morning of March 6 when Mexican Soldiers, giving no quarter, slaughtered all defenders. The loss at the Alamo would become a rallying cry for Texian forces ultimately leading to Santa Anna’s defeat one month later at the battle of San Jacinto. The actions at the Alamo are world famous and serve as a striking example of the cost brave men are willing to make for freedom in the face of tyranny.

“I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible and die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor and that of his country. VICTORY OR DEATH.”

At the end of WWII, the 141st Infantry Regiment sponsored a football game between the 36th Infantry Division and the 29th Infantry Division. Outcome of game is unknown, but pretty sure we know our Texas Soldiers took down the boys from Virginia.
