Update at 10:53 a.m.: FM 482 has been reopened.

We are on scene of a major collision in the 6900-block of FM 482 (Between Schwab & Hubertus Road). Due to the overturned dump truck and the spilled load, FM 482 will be closed at the Schwab and Hubertus intersections.

Please avoid this area and expect delays. We will update this post when the road has been reopened.

The Schertz Police Department stands with the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office and the Canton Police Department during this time of profound loss.

We mourn the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Deputy who was killed in the line of duty overnight. Our thoughts are also with the Canton Police Officer who was shot and wounded during the same incident. We hope for a speed and full recovery.

Choosing to protect and serve others requires extraordinary courage, dedication, and selflessness. We honor this deputy’s service and ultimate sacrifice.

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, coworkers, and the community he served. We also pray for the wounded Canton Police Officer’s healing and full recovery.

To both agencies: your Schertz Police Department family stands beside you.

🚧 I-35 NEX Lane Closure Notice 🚧

Dates: Tuesday, October 20 to Wednesday, October 21
Time: Friday, 9:00 p.m. to Monday, 5:00 a.m.

TxDOT will close the northbound I-35 main lanes at Loop 1604 to install bridge beams. Northbound I-35 traffic will be detoured to the eastbound Loop 1604 flyover and follow the detour to the Pat Booker Road turnaround for access to the northbound I-35 mainlanes.

We are on scene of a major collision in the 17000 block of I-35 northbound (Schertz Parkway area) that is blocking the right and middle lanes. Expect delays and consider an alternate route if possible.

The Schertz Police Department has received reports of callers posing as USAA bank representatives. The caller claims your bank card has been compromised and says a representative will come to your home to pick it up.

⚠️ A bank representative will NOT come to your home to collect your card. Do not hand it over!

Protect yourself:
📞 Hang up and contact your bank directly using the number on the back of your card or through its official app.
🔒 Never share your PIN, password, or verification codes.
💳 If you have already handed over your card, contact your bank immediately to secure your account and report the incident to your local police department.

🚧 FM 1518 Expansion Update 🚧

𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲: Monday, October 19, to Friday, October 23, 2026
𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲: 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Details: Both lanes of Lower Seguin Road at FM 1518 will be closed starting Monday, October 19, at 9:00 A.M. Message boards from TXDOT will be in place to alert drivers about the closure. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider the following alternate routes:

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗠 𝟭𝟱𝟭𝟴: Take Loop 1604 to FM 78.
