In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month during May, the METC Mental Health Technician course on Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, hosted a series of pop-up tables to distribute handouts and promote general mental health awareness among METC students and staff. To maximize outreach, the MHT course team rotated the pop-up tables through five Medical Instructional Facilities throughout the month while promoting and highlighting this important initiative.

In recognition of Nurse Tech Week earlier this month, students and staff in the METC Air Force Aerospace Medical Service Apprentice (AMSA) course took a break from training to visit with Bowser the Therapy Dog, accompanied by his handler and owner, AMSA instructor Staff Sgt. Jacklyn Cordaro, on May 8. Bowserβs mission as a certified therapy dog is to help reduce stress, improve morale, and promote emotional well-being for his many new friends. Being this was Bowserβs first time visiting AMSA as a canine therapist, the handsome two-year-old boxer was on point! The smiles spread immediately as Bowser calmly circulated through classrooms working his magic. The duo is affiliated with and perform volunteer work for the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, visiting schools, colleges, clinics, and fulfilling other visit requests. In addition, Bowser also visits patients and staff at Brooke Army Medical Center as part of BAMCβs official facility dog program and makes monthly visits to the METC Air Force student dormitory where they are involved in the teal rope dog therapy program. Staff Sgt. Cordaro began the process of getting Bowser properly trained and certified when he was just a puppy with the goal of coming to AMSA on a regular basis. With a request pending, Staff Sgt. Cordaro hopes she and Bowser will visit AMSA on a weekly or monthly basis to continue supporting students and staff with animal assisted therapy.

In honor of the Month of the Military Child April 30, instructors and staff with the METC Radiologic Technologist course brought their children to work to see what their parents do all day. Staff and instructors provided demonstrations and fun interactions for the kids where they learned about physics, biology and anatomy, spent time in an x-ray and nuclear medicine lab, and also learned about ultrasound. Thanks to the dedicated course instructors and staff, the Month of the Military Child Radiology Tour was a huge success!

The Military Health System has launched a new digital resource card to provide service members with instant access to vital brain health tools and concussion recovery information.
"By connecting users directly to the Warfighter Brain Health Hub, the digital card supports faster intervention, informed decision-making, and improved health outcomes," said Keith Bass, assistant secretary of war for health affairs.
