Vibrant Works welcomed San Antonio College’s Student Accessibility Services team for a tour focused on accessible spaces, assistive technology and resources for people with vision loss.

During the visit, guests learned more about Evelity, our indoor navigation system; the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) Program; and assistive technology. The tour also included hands-on demonstrations and Q&A with our team.

Vibrant Works hosted the first training session in our Low Vision Tools and Training Center this week, featuring Meta glasses with Assistive Technology Specialist Christian Sanchez. 👓💙

During the hands-on class, participants learned how smart glasses with a built-in AI assistant can support people who are blind or have low vision in daily life. Attendees explored features that can read text aloud, describe surroundings, make phone calls, send messages and identify items.

The training also gave participants the opportunity to try the glasses, ask questions and learn how emerging technology can create new possibilities for independence and accessibility.

Participant Mary Lou shared that the class was her first time testing the glasses.

“I think it was wonderful,” she said. “It amazes me that AI is advancing so much, especially in ways that are useful for people who are visually impaired. They are amazing. I want a pair.”

Upcoming monthly training sessions will continue to feature low vision tools and assistive technology designed to support daily living and build confidence.

• June 24 at 1 p.m. — eSight Go with Christian S.
• July 29 at 10 a.m. — Ruby 10 with Speech with Christian S.
• Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. — Meta glasses with Luz A.
• Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. — eSight Go with Luz A.
• Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. — Ruby 10 with Speech with Luz A.
