This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s take a step toward prevention! 🌱

Healthy everyday habits, like staying physically active, can help lower breast cancer risk. Just as importantly, early detection saves lives. Mammograms can detect breast cancer before symptoms appear, when it may be easier to treat, improving the chances of successful treatment.

Central Library’s iconic Chihuly sculpture is taking some time off. 🏖️

“Fiesta Tower” is Central Library’s centerpiece public artwork by renowned artist Dale Chihuly. The artwork was safely and temporarily deinstalled while repairs are made to the Central Library atrium and skylights.

“Fiesta Tower” fun facts 🎉

-Specially trained and authorized art handlers of Chihuly Studio completed the deinstallation.
-When “Fiesta Tower” is de-installed, it is always re-installed in a slightly different configuration, meaning the artwork will be fresh and new the next time you see it.
-“Fiesta Tower” is made of 917 individual glass pieces.
-This iconic artwork was commissioned and donated by the San Antonio Public Library Foundation in celebration of the San Antonio Public Library’s 100th Anniversary in 2003.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, we’re highlighting October’s “From the Westside to Worldwide: The Story of Robert ‘Pikin’ Quiroga” by San Antonio artist Mike “Comp” Arguello. The mural honors Robert “Pikin” Quiroga, San Antonio’s first world champion boxer, and celebrates his journey from a San Antonio local to a world champion. 🥊 🎨

The mural is a visual timeline that weaves together Quiroga’s story through photos, headlines, and memories. It celebrates San Antonio pride and inspires future generations to believe greatness can come from their own neighborhood.
