Join us for an afternoon full of ribbon skirt making! Scan the QR code and fill out the form to RSVP.

Ribbon skirts have remained a statement piece in Native women's fashion for the last several decades. The intention behind the colors, fabric, and time put into making a ribbon skirt is important, as each of these qualities reflect aspects of the maker’s identity and expression. Moreover, ribbon skirts have been a crucial component during ceremonial events, and some women even choose to wear them to powwows since they represent the love we have for showcasing who we are, representing ourselves, and the colors of our nation. Use colors, fabric, and ribbons of your choice, or feel free to bring any materials that you love.

Show us what a ribbon skirt means to you and how it can be used to express your identity as a Native person!

Though Pride Month is coming to a close, our appreciation for our Two-Spirit kin is yearlong. These are just a few of the traditional and contemporary terms to describe multiple gender identities throughout Native communities, but there are many more. Two-Spirit people have traditionally held important and sacred roles, including peacekeepers and medicine people. Respecting and creating spaces for Two-Spirit community members is essential to creating equitable futures. Learn and educate others on the history of gender variation in tribal communities!
