Our Story

Education: Our goal is to build the educational capacity of children through our Learning Centers and the Prospect Hill 100 Scholarship Fund. The American Sunrise Learning Center (ASLC) currently serves Kinder – 6th graders in the Prospect Hill Neighborhood. The future renovation of one of our properties will afford us the opportunity to serve 6th – 12th graders, with a strong Literacy Program, as well as future plans to add a STEM Program and SAT/ACT Prep program for high school students.

Adult Services: We work to build the financial capacity of adults through financial literacy classes, enhance the employability of the children’s parents through English as a Second Language (ESL) and citizenship classes. We believe in training parents and their children in order to build thriving families for generations to come.

Housing: The dream of home ownership has become a reality for many of our parents who are primarily first time home buyers. Our housing program has purchased older, run down houses, and turned them into beautifully rehabilitated homes that have sold at affordable prices.

Economic Revitalization: Most of the businesses in the one square mile are located in two major thoroughfares and our goal is to revitalize those economic corridors into thriving economic generators that will help strengthen and anchor our neighborhood. Our goal is to help them improve or expand their businesses and attract new businesses into the Westside of San Antonio.

Community Service: Through a partnership with Public Allies, an AmeriCorps project, young adults between the age of 18 and 30 were placed in apprenticeship positions at non-profit organizations throughout the city of San Antonio. Each participating Ally was awarded a $5,000 academic scholarship at the end of their 10-month apprenticeship. American Sunrise continues to support community services including Our Lady of the Lake University’s annual student volunteer day and more. We hope to grow our volunteer base to develop our community service and beautify our neighborhood.

American Sunrise is helping to build a new cadre of leaders, which serves children and families throughout San Antonio and Bexar County.
