December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy:
TIMELINE 1941 - December 07
The United States of America entered World War II (1939 – 1945), after the Japanese surprise bombing of the U.S. Naval Base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy.
The almost two-hour-long sneak attack consisted of two waves, ending with the American loss of over 2,000 servicemen and 68 civilians.
Less than 24 hours later, The United States Congress declared War on Japan. Three days later, December 11, Japan’s allies, Germany and Italy declared War on the United States.
Franklin Roosevelt, U.S. President (1933-1945).
United States automobile manufacturers stopped producing automobiles and converted their facilities for producing War machines, Tanks, Personnel Carriers, Jeeps, Trucks, etc.
All 500,000 new 1942 automobiles that had already been produced in the Fall of 1941 were hoarded by the U.S. Government and distributed to civil service workers whose duties were deemed essential and important towards the War effort.
Thomas Jefferson High School dedicates its full support of the war effort.
Fiesta San Antonio (Fiesta de San Jacinto) for 1942 was cancelled in a December 15 meeting at the Municipal Auditorium. Fiesta San Antonio would not return until after WW II ended.

San Antonio Thomas Jefferson High School was designated a Texas Historical Landmark 42 years ago, 1983.
Most of you have seen the Historical Plaque that is embedded on a wall of our school's Grand Hallway.
In 1983, there was no "Google" for researching, there was limited Internet available, mostly to universities. The Business IBM PC was launched, but at a typical price tag of $4,000 ~ $6,000, without a hard drive or color screen. (Dual floppy drives with a monochrome screen and 128K RAM memory).
Well, no wonder there are errors in the plaque and now myths about Jefferson High.
