Yes, we are all tired of being cooped up and not able to get together with our friends and family. But these days will be over soon and we will gather together and all catch up with how things are going. We will keep up to date on the time frame for the change in dues.

We want to let all of our 50, 60 and 70 year members know that we haven’t forgotten about celebrating your huge milesstone. When we gather again we will have a nice celebration to recognize each of you. You are the backbone of our lodge and an inspiration to so many.

Better days are coming and we WILL have much to celebrate. Fathers; Mothers; Anniversaries; Birthdays; new jobs; Births; Spring; Summer; Flag Day; Fourth of July; updates to our beautiful, historic Home Assn. building and in the fall we have Fiesta; Wurstfest and so much more.

Stay home, stay safe.

Due to the stay at home situation Siemering has met virtually for our April meeting. We have been able to keep in touch and handle business by phone and by email. So far, we are all well (maybe a little cabin fever). One member said he has watched a lot of westerns. There has been a lot of reading, crafting, gardening going on. We will all have stories to tell.

We are all maintaining the necessary distancing, while still doing our best for the community. We have members shopping and delivering supplies to those in need, we have those working on projects for the homeless for next winter, and we have a member (Mrs. Cherry Lee) who has been recognized by San Antonio District 9 City Councilman John Courage for making masks for the American G.I. Forum, Haven for Hope and various other organizations.

We thank our dear friends for showing that we can keep going through tough times.

Siemering is proud to join in the outstanding efforts to revitalize our San Antonio Hermann Sons Home Assn. Building. Our board members are eager, hard-working guys putting in lots of ideas, time, skills and it is contagious in a good way. Everyone should look forward to when we can come down and check out the many activities on the schedule. You will be surprised at how comfortable and refreshed the Rathskeller is. For more information call Chris at 210-226-5432.

We will celebrate birthdays when we are able to gather- together again in “Friendship, Love, and Loyalty”.

I hope this email finds everyone safe and well. As we all try to maintain our health by observing the social distancing and limited exposure to others.

The officers have made the decision to cancel our April meeting with hopes we will all be able to get together again soon.

I do not have some of the folks email addresses or snail mail addresses, please share this information with them. The ones I have addresses for I will mail copies of this letter.

Stay safe and well.

In Friendship, Love, and Loyalty

St Patrick’s Day was a really fun theme for our March gathering. With the help of leprechauns and our Irish gourmets we enjoyed a totally Irish meal and music.

We also welcomed our new member Joe Luna, who is a familiar face who was excited to become a member.

We then recognized our active Past Presidents. Present were Sally Hertzberg, Sharon Hertzberg Fite, Ron Bara, and our current President Donald O’Conner.

February brought us to our “We Love Our Agents Night”. What better theme for a Valentine’s event? The evening started off with an Italian themed dinner:
Lasagna, garlic bread and many wonderful side dishes and desserts.

We then recognized some of the agents who write up our new members. Present were Judy Schulmeier of Kirby Lodge and her husband Irvin, Special Representative – Eulla Krueger and her daughter Gwen Gatlin, and Special Representative – Teresa Saathoff and her husband Doug. There was a great
information and Q & A; A session about the variety of Hermann Sons Life Products. This was information of which many were unaware. Hopefully it will help getting more prospects for our Order.

Continuing with our special day, Mrs. Gatlin who is a teacher was observed putting a can tab in her pocket. A co-worker asked around as to why she did that and turned it into a community service project for her class at Kriewald Elementary School in SWISD. Mrs. Martinez class presented Mrs. Gatlin with a suitcase of tabs (37,000 tabs that weighed 31 pounds) to donate in their name to our “Tabs for Zach” project. Zachary Baza who is now 12 and his family were there to receive the can tabs to take to Ronald McDonald House. Zach had a triple organ transplant at 6 months of age. His family received assistance from them when he had to travel to Omaha for treatments. The Baza family are members of Siemering Lodge and this is an on-going project for us. They also received an approximately 6 pound bag of tabs from Ex-CEO Steve Pruitt and several gallon bags from Siemering members.

We celebrated birthdays with our guests and ended our meeting in “Friendship, Love, and Loyalty.

March will bring a totally delicious Irish meal prepared by the Lee family, our private gourmets. Side dishes are always appreciated. We will also be honoring our past presidents.
Our meetings usually take place in the Rathskeller at 525 So. St. Mary’s, but some will be out in extra fun places. Keep an eye on our articles for upcoming details.

Come join us for great fellowship and the good feeling of helping with projects to help our community on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm.

Our Christmas meeting took place at The Magic Time Machine. We all had a fabulous time, our waitress “Poison Ivy” was amazing. We completed all our Holiday giving projects and are looking forward to new friends, projects and activities.

January’s gathering brought a meal of comfort foods, installation of new officers, and a planning session for our 2020 activity calendar. Our elected leadership for 2020 will be:
President—Donald O’Conner

Financial Secretary/Treasurer—Chris Naughton
Corresponding Secretary—Sharon Fite
Finance Committee/Trustees—Mark Lee, Ed Shadrock and Ron Bara.
Our appointed positions are:
Chaplin—Katherine Hess

Our calendar for the 2020 activities is looking exciting. Each month will be a family style dinner with everyone bringing side dishes and different volunteer bringing the entrée.

In February we will be starting off with Lasagna. Our meetings usually take place in the Rathskeller at 525 S. St. Mary’s, but some will be out in extra fun places. Keep an eye on our articles for upcoming details.

Come join us for great fellowship and the good feeling of helping with projects to help our community on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm.

We celebrated Fiesta at our April gathering. Everyone dressed in bright colors, their Fiesta
shirts and proudly showed off their collection of medals. Our meeting was very productive. It
was decided to keep our meeting time at 7 PM and we voted to adopt the updated lodge name
of Hermann Sons Life Siemering. Melrose Bendele and JoAnn Massengale with the assistance
of our President Donald O’Connor served a great fried chicken dinner with lots of spring fruit.
And again we thank the Bara family for our dessert. Lloyd and Elizabeth Markell share the same
wedding anniversary with Paul and Katherine Hess. We were pleased to help them celebrate
along with the birthday of Ron Bara.
Our Split-the- Pot” tickets continue to be sold at each meeting and the lodge portion from
January thru May will go to the Hermann Sons Life Camp Grief Session.
May is our anniversary gathering when we will also celebrate our Mothers and our wonderful
Pioneer members who will be invited to receive their 60+ year pins from the Home Office. Of
course, we will be asking everyone to RSVP for this event, so we have enough food. You can
RSVP at 210-226- 6831 Siemering office or 210-259- 6522 Sharon Fite or email
[email protected]. We are wearing pink for this gathering.
Father’s Day and Flag Day are the focus of our June gathering. We are encouraging everyone to
wear their favorite red, white and blue outfits and join us for good food, fellowship and a time
to share memories.
