Catholic Charities serves all people regardless of race, religion, or national origin; from birth to natural death. Catholic Charities serves through a network of comprehensive programs that include basic needs, family and children’s services, legal services, refugee resettlement, counseling, pregnant and parenting education, and senior services with the goal of providing basic needs, strengthening the vulnerable, nurturing families, and promoting self-sufficiency. The vision of Catholic Charities is to comfort, care, and advocate for all people in crisis by strengthening the vulnerable and promoting self-sufficiency. Through all of our programs, our daily activities are intended to lift a person out of crisis, encounter them in Christ, and accompany them on their journey to wholeness.

Meet Rev. Dr. Roger Macias! 👋

Deacon Macias serves as Secretary of the Catholic Charities Board of Directors, bringing his lifelong commitment to faith, service, and community involvement to our mission.

A San Antonio native, Deacon Macias has been a practicing dentist for more than 43 years. He was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacon in May 2016 and was assigned to San Fernando Cathedral, where he has continued his dedication to serving others through faith and ministry. He also attended several institutions, including St. Mary’s University and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

We are incredibly grateful for Deacon Macias' compassion, leadership, and continued commitment to Catholic Charities and the individuals and families we serve.

A Spooktacular Senior Social!

Our Adopt-A-Senior program celebrated the fall season with a spooky movie-themed Fall Festival Senior Social! Our older adults came together to enjoy Hocus Pocus, socialize with friends, and enjoy classic movie snacks, including popcorn and jumbo pickles.

Events like these create meaningful opportunities for older adults to connect, build friendships, and enjoy fun experiences together. We're grateful for every opportunity to bring our older adults together for an afternoon of laughter, fellowship, and a little fall magic!

Meet Trey Tschirhart! 👋

Trey serves as Treasurer of the Catholic Charities Board of Directors, bringing his extensive experience in finance, accounting, and leadership to our mission. He has been a dedicated member of the board since 2023.

Outside of Catholic Charities, Trey is a Certified Public Accountant and Partner at Ernst & Young in San Antonio, where he has more than 20 years of experience advising businesses on complex financial and tax matters. His commitment to serving others extends beyond his professional career, having been actively involved with St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Catholic School, and Kinetic Kids in San Antonio.

We are incredibly grateful for Trey’s leadership, expertise, and continued dedication to Catholic Charities and the individuals and families we serve.

Catholic Charities staff traveled to attend the Catholic Charities USA Annual Gathering, uniting Catholic Charities staff from across the country to learn, share ideas, build the network, and even worship together. We also had the pleasure of providing our Volunteer Services expert, Liliana Franco, for a volunteer breakout session and representing our workforce development program, Sewing for Success, by showcasing our products.

To our Catholic Charities friends across the country, thank you for gathering, sharing, and building bridges for us and our neighbors in need.

Ada Saenz, our President and CEO, shares a special message:
"Our team had an inspiring experience at the Catholic Charities USA Annual Gathering in Richmond, Virginia.

This year’s theme, The Bridges We Build, left me reflecting on something I believe our country desperately needs: greater connection to one another.
As one presenter so powerfully shared, “It’s hard to hate up close.”

Those words stayed with me. When we take the time to truly know one another, to see each other as brothers and sisters, we create space for greater love, understanding, compassion, and healing. We begin to recognize our shared humanity and feel a deeper responsibility to walk alongside one another through life’s challenges.

At Catholic Charities, I hope we can continue to be more than a provider of services. I hope we can be a bridge that brings people together, strengthens relationships, and builds a community where every neighbor feels seen, valued, and connected.

We were happy to welcome Bexar County Public Health to our After School Program at Guadalupe Community Center. They spent time engaging with our youth through fun, educational activities, such as coloring and bracelet making. The children were also given age-appropriate conversations about healthy relationships.

Through meaningful discussions and interactive learning, students had the opportunity to explore the importance of kindness, respect, and building positive relationships with themselves and those around them!

A big thank you to Superior HealthPlan San Antonio for spending time at St. Stephen's CARE Center today! Their team helped load groceries into carts and distribute them to clients, organize sack lunches, and sort food and clothing donations to support those in need.

We're always looking for new ways to strengthen our programs and better serve our community! 💪

We attended the VITACON Regional Summit in Minneapolis, Minnesota, hosted by Prosperity Now. The theme was “Together on the Path to Prosperity.”

The summit brought together professionals dedicated to strengthening financial stability, providing valuable resources, insights, and connections to help enhance our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Thanks to a generous award from Prosperity Now, we continue strengthening our efforts to provide free tax preparation services to individuals and families in our community.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This is a time to celebrate the cultures, traditions, and lasting contributions of Indigenous communities.

Catholic Charities USA's Whole Hearted is a parish-based resource that addresses how life's painful experiences affect mental health, bringing together faith and behavioral health.

Over four sessions, participants move through recognition, renewal, and restoration. The Participant Journal offers reflection and discussion questions, guided imagery and prayer exercises, and spiritual practices.
