In the aftermath of a global pandemic, the Texas grid’s near-total collapse due to Winter Storm Uri, and the breakdown of the global economy due to tariff wars and supply chain disruptions, under Rudy’s leadership, CPS has emerged as one of the lowest-cost, best-prepared public utilities in the country.

He will leave a legacy of capable and compassionate leadership during incredibly challenging times.

This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in defense of our country and remember the families who continue to carry their legacy forward.

Four years ago today, 19 children and 2 teachers were taken from us in Uvalde.

In the days that followed, San Antonio stepped up to support our neighbors—sending emergency resources and raising funds for the families affected by the tragedy, and mourned with a town grieving an unimaginable loss. Four years later, we still owe it to our children, our educators, and our communities to work toward preventing gun violence and keeping our schools safe.

We remember Uvalde today and always.

Grateful for Dr. Jacob and the ’s partnership during such a critical time for our city, and for the opportunity to speak with public health professionals from across the country.

Our voices and stories are powerful tools for organizing our communities and bringing their power to the forefront of government. Those reflections are at the heart of my book and the conversation we had tonight in Houston with and local Democrats.
