Talk about a reason to celebrate! 🥁🎶

All 12 NISD marching bands earned the highest possible rating, Superior (1st Division), at the UIL Region 29 Marching Band Contest at Farris Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17!

Now, all 12 are headed to Area! John Jay (5A) takes the field this Saturday, Oct. 24, followed by our 6A bands on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Rutledge Stadium in Judson ISD.

Congratulations to our talented students, directors and families on this incredible accomplishment! Way to go, Northside Bands! 👏

Congratulations to NISD Board of Trustees Secretary Karla Duran on her election to the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors! 👏

Duran will serve a three-year term representing TASB Region 20, Position B. Elected to the NISD Board of Trustees in 2023, she previously served as an educator in the district and has held leadership roles in other San Antonio school districts.

She holds a Ph.D. in organizational leadership and dual master’s degrees in international business and management.

Congratulations, Dr. Duran, on this achievement!

Celebrating the NISD 2026 Pillar of Responsibility: Robert Garcia! 👏

A proud Jay High School graduate, Robert’s journey reflects the power of personal accountability and second chances. After facing early challenges, he took ownership of his future, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Texas at San Antonio.

After 15 years in financial leadership, Robert founded his own CPA firm, . In 2026, he was elected to the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees, representing District 9.

Today, Robert uses his experience to advocate for educational opportunities that can change students’ lives. His journey exemplifies the values of a true Pillar of Responsibility!

We visited the Agricultural Science Technology Academy (ASTA) Magnet High School for Ag in Action, where more than 300 ASTA students welcomed over 1,000 fourth graders from across Northside for hands-on agricultural activities. From learning about farm animals to exploring agriculture and discovering new interests, students got a glimpse of the exciting opportunities ASTA has to offer. This long-standing tradition has welcomed more than 44,000 fourth graders since 1998! 🌱
