Giving Back to the Community

This morning, staff of NRC San Antonio had the privilege of volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, where we cooked and served a warm spaghetti lunch for families staying there.

In addition to sharing a meal, we provided fun crafts for the kids — bringing smiles, laughter, and a little bit of joy to their day.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to give back and support such an amazing organization that does so much for families in need. 💛

"October 17th, 2025, a hero finally came home.

On Friday, we attended the solemn return of Storekeeper 3rd Class Robert Stillman Garcia, a Texas native who lost his life in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After more than eight decades, his remains have finally returned home to Texas.

Garcia served aboard the USS California (BB-44) when the battleship was struck during the surprise attack that propelled the United States into World War II. He was just 23 years old. For over 80 years, his remains were listed as “unaccounted for”, resting among the unknown at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii.

Through the tireless work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and DNA submitted by surviving family members, Garcia’s identity was finally confirmed earlier this year. Today, his flag-draped casket arrived home to a hero’s welcome, met with solemn military honors, family, and grateful Texans who gathered to pay their respects.

Storekeeper 3rd Class Garcia will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi on October 21, 2025.

Today was not only the return of one sailor, it was the return of a promise kept."
