ALA Primary has a new set of Junior Rangers.

Our Kindergarteners took an exciting step into history with a field trip to Mission San Jose to launch their new Family Traditions Project-Based Learning (PBL) project!

As our young learners begin exploring their heritage, local history, and personal identity, they are working together to answer an important driving question: "How can I introduce myself to my school community?"

Here is how our Kinder explorers connected history, culture, and community during their trip:
Exploring Historical Grounds: Students toured Mission San Jose, exploring the workshop, indigenous living quarters, soldier quarters, granary, Church, and Rose Window.
Identity & Junior Rangers: Students completed activities in their Junior Ranger books to discover how history and culture shape who we are, capping off the morning with an official Junior Ranger swearing-in ceremony!

A heartfelt thank you to all of our dedicated parent chaperones and staff members for guiding our student groups throughout the day!

Kinder families make sure to check your SeeSaw in order to sign up to present your family's tradition with your child as part of their research.

This upcoming Friday is big day at ALA! Attend ALA Fall Family Conferences during the day and then join us for our 4th Annual Noche Musical de los Mu***os in the evening!

Celebrate music, culture, and community with us. Enjoy performances from our talented mariachi, theater, dance, and band students, plus food and activities for the whole family. Open to all ALA families and the community. We can't wait to celebrate with you!

Performances: 5:30-9:00 PM
Wristbands: $5 at the door

Our 2nd graders took their learning outdoors with an exciting field trip to Mitchell's Landing to officially launch their latest Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit!

As students research different disabilities, they are working together to answer an important driving question for our school community: "How can we design a more accessible and inclusive ALA for future generations?"

Here is how our young designers gathered real-world inspiration:
Inclusive Scavenger Hunt: Students completed a hands-on scavenger hunt across the playground to identify features designed for mobility, sensory, emotional, and cognitive needs.

Accessibility in Action: They investigated ramped play structures, poured-in-place safety ground cover, Rox-All see-saws, Chrysalis spinners, harmonic chimes, and sensory mosaic tiles featuring braille.

Campus Reflection: Students gathered with their groups to reflect on how these universal design features help everyone play together and brainstormed ways to bring similar accessibility to our own campus.

A big thank you to all of our wonderful parent chaperones who helped guide our student groups and support their reflections throughout the day! This week the 2nd graders will be learning from experts to continue their research.

What a vibrant, busy week at ALA Primary last week! From science in action to hands-on math, our students are making big discoveries every day. Here is a look at what’s been happening around school:

2nd Grade Inclusion PBL: Our 2nd graders kicked off their new Project-Based Learning unit by researching different disabilities.

Kindergarten Math Explorers: Kinder math was full of hands-on learning this week as students used colorful manipulatives to sort, count, and compare!

Metamorphosis Magic: Science came alive as butterflies officially started emerging from their chrysalises! The excitement spilled outside as everyone soaked up the gorgeous, cooler fall weather.

Mrs. Tegeler’s Farmer’s Market: The market is officially OPEN! Students are practicing real-world math, teamwork, and communication in Mrs. Tegeler's classroom.

Our 6th grade mathematicians put on their detective hats and grabbed their magnifying glasses to crack the case of "The Invisible Illusionist!" With a little creativity and a lot of critical thinking, their math lesson was transformed into an engaging mystery for students to solve.

Heads up - Texas’ Free College Application Week is taking place Oct. 12-18, 2026. During this special week, Texas students will be able to apply to Texas public colleges and universities for free via the ApplyTexas application system. Don’t miss out – get your application in by Oct. 18!

To support both our seniors and their families, we will be hosting our first "College Kick Off" on October 8th from 10:00am-2:00pm! This time will be a workshop style setting for 12th grade students and their families to receive support in the following areas:

FAFSA Completion
College Applications
College Essays & Supplementals
Understanding Automatic Admissions & Promise Scholarships
Financial Aid

Our amazing 1st-grade students did an incredible job presenting their research at the San Antonio Monarch Butterfly & Pollinator Festival!

A huge THANK YOU to our wonderful 1st-grade teachers and supportive families for making this unforgettable learning experience possible for our students. Your dedication helps our young learners soar!

We also spotted Ms. Martin volunteering at the event, and Mrs. Toland came out to show her support! We love seeing our school community shine together!
