A stormy week is expected with active storms expected to escalate over Central Texas and Hill Country by early Tuesday evening and spread south across much of South Central Texas Tuesday night. There is a potential for severe storms mainly for Tuesday night, but repeated rounds of rain are possible which could lead to localized flooding Tuesday night through Thursday.

Did you know South Central Texas is one of the most flood-prone regions in the country?

As we recognize Flood Awareness Week (May 18–22), here’s what you need to know to help keep our community safe.

Flood safety reminders:
• Know your flood risk before severe weather happens
• Turn Around, Don’t Drown®, never drive through flooded roads
• Stay informed by turning on weather and emergency alerts
• Follow official guidance during flooding events
• Use caution and clean up safely after a flood

Nine years of remembering our brother, however for many of us it feels like yesterday. We carry your memory in our hearts. Scott Patrick Deem died on May 18, 2017 from injuries sustained when he was trapped in a structural collapse during a four-alarm fire.

National EMS Week 2026 is May 17th–23rd, marking the 52nd anniversary of honoring emergency medical professionals, established in 1974. The 2026 theme is "Improving Outcomes, Together," highlighting advancements like in-field blood transfusions. Your SAFD EMS was also established in 1974!
Here is our first class, known as ‘The First Fifty-Five”. Also, SAFD EMS became the gold standard across the country by introducing pre-hospital whole blood transfusions in 2018. Join us in honoring “the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's frontline”.

"San Antonio family praises firefighters after dramatic elevator rescue at Texas Diabetes Institute" Story link below in the comments ⬇️
If you are stuck in an elevator:
Remain calm, press the emergency call button. If no response call 911. Remain Calm and Patient, take slow breaths and wait.
Do not try to force the doors open: You could be stuck between floors.
Do not attempt to climb out on your own or jump: This is dangerous. The safest place is inside until help arrives. Elevators are well-ventilated, so you will not run out of air.
