October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to recognize the strength and resilience of survivors, support those currently facing the disease, and honor the memory of those we have lost.
Today, SBCERA team members attended a special presentation, “Beyond the Diagnosis: What Breast Cancer Taught Me About Early Detection, Owning Your Decisions, and Protecting Your Future,” led by our Chief Human Resources Officer, Stacey Barnier.
Stacey shared her personal journey following a breast cancer diagnosis more than a year ago and how the experience changed her perspective on health, planning, and preparing for life's unexpected challenges. Drawing from her experiences with treatment and recovery, she spoke about the importance of early detection, advocating for yourself, making informed healthcare decisions, and navigating the physical and emotional challenges that can accompany a cancer diagnosis.
She also highlighted the value of understanding your employee benefits before you need them, including how supplemental cancer insurance can help provide financial protection during an already challenging time.
We're grateful to Stacey for her openness and willingness to share such a personal experience with our team. Her story was a meaningful reminder of the importance of prioritizing our health, being informed, and preparing for the unexpected.
As we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage everyone to take time to prioritize their health, support those affected by breast cancer, and remember that awareness and early detection can make a difference.
