The Force was strong at Mt. Vernon’s Family Literacy Night! 📚✨ Our families joined us for an out-of-this-world evening, celebrating literacy! From interactive reading stations, focused on phonics, decoding, and comprehension to community partners, guest readers, a photo booth, FREE books for every scholar, and chances to visit our book vending machine, there was something for everyone. A huge thank you to our Mt. Vernon staff, families, San Bernardino County Library and Cal State San Bernardino for making the evening interstellar.💫🚀 May the Force, and love of reading, be with you! 📖🌌

📚✨Today we randomly selected one scholar from each grade level to visit our NEW Book Vending Machine and choose a book to take home! 🎉 The catch? Scholars had to be PRESENT to win! 📖 Every day matters, every scholar matters, and today was another fun reason to show up! 💛

A huge THANK YOU to Goodfellas Social Club of San Bernardino for welcoming two new first-year teachers to the Mt. Vernon community with Amazon gift cards to help them begin their journey in the classroom! 📚 More meaningful than the gifts themselves were the words shared with our new teachers: You are now part of the Mt. Vernon community.🐝 This generous gesture was about paying it forward, investing in teachers who, in turn, will make a lasting impact on countless scholars and families for years to come. 💛 We are grateful to have community partners who believe in our teachers, our scholars, and the power of giving back. Welcome to Mt. Vernon, Ms. Estrada and Mr. Kirk! 🍎

Thank you Mt. Vernon families, staff and scholars for a successful Back to School Night! 🍎 Not only did families get to visit classrooms, meet staff, visit our renovated STEAM Lab and hear our Title 1 presentation but tonight’s event was also extra special as we unveiled our new book vending machine!📚 We know this book vending machine will inspire our scholars to become lifelong readers and help cultivate a love for literacy at school and home. 🏫📙🏠
