More than just a public art installation, the CommUnity Mural Project is about telling the rich, diverse story of The Greater Logan Heights.
Led by Logan Heights Community Development Corporation, the project brought more than a dozen local artists and hundreds of community members together to transform public spaces beneath the I-5 and SR-15 freeways at Imperial Avenue into vibrant expressions of The Greater Logan Heights’ past, present and future.
From the beginning, community voice has been the center of the project. Residents were invited to participate in workshops, conversations, and creative sessions to share their stories, ideas, and vision for the murals. Then, they were invited to join local artists in actually bringing those ideas to life with a community painting session.
The result is more than just colorful walls beautifying the freeway underpasses.
It is a reflection of the vibrant spirit that makes Logan Heights what it is. Created with the community, for the community, it honors the neighborhood’s rich history, diverse culture and inspiring stories.
The goal was to unite people and places through the power of artistic expression, and four years later, we did just that. This mural turns these spaces into landmarks that tell a story. A story the community helped write.
