It was an honor to join PFLAG San Diego County for their annual scholarship luncheon! For decades, this incredible organization has been giving back to our community and opening doors for LGBTQ+ individuals to continue their education and pursue their dreams. The California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus was proud to support their mission this year and fund vital scholarships. Congratulations to all of the inspiring students.

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. Especially in light of recent events in our community, we honor those whose lives have been impacted by gun violence and reaffirm our commitment to preventing future tragedies. Join me in wearing orange to stand in solidarity with survivors, victims, and their loved ones.

There is nothing like coming home from Sacramento and getting to chat and share my experience with the participants in the Young Professionals Council at The San Diego LGBT Community Center. We had a great discussion on policy they care about, what the state’s role is on different issues, and what they can do to advocate for what they care for! YPC is a great program giving young leaders the skills to make an impact in our shared community.

It’s always an honor to join the community for the Annual Kensington Holiday at Home Memorial Day Parade! While we celebrate our neighborhood spirit, we also pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Today, I joined our community at Miramar National Cemetery to honor the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the heavy price of freedom, not just for those who laid down their lives, but for the families and loved ones who carry their legacy forward. Forever grateful for their sacrifice.

Monday was a historic day up in Sacramento as the Legislative Jewish Caucus celebrated . As part of this celebration, I was proud to name Rabbi Devorah Marcus as my honoree. Serving as Temple Emanu-El’s rabbi since 2013, her leadership has helped foster a community filled with inclusion, resilience, faith, and joy. Her voice and activism reaches far beyond Temple Emanu-El. Rabbi Marcus also fights for LGBTQ+ inclusive programming in our school districts, as well as supports our Jewish military community. It brings me great joy to have her in our amazing community!
