All set up for Easter Sunrise Service at Cabrillo National Monument with a dozen pop up tents for tomorrow morning at 630am. We hope to have even a tiny window of clear weather, but we are prepared for the rain.

74TH ANNUAL EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE AT CABRILLO NATIONAL MONUMENT
RAIN OR SHINE!
Cabrillo National Monument, Point Loma, Sunday, March 31, 2024. The Kiwanis Club of Point Loma will again present an ecumenical Easter Sunrise Service at the Cabrillo National Monument. The services will be held in the lower parking lot, giving those who attend a great early morning panoramic view of San Diego Harbor and the city.
Club President Joanna DaCosta points out that this year’s services will mark the 74th consecutive year (minus the two covid years) that the Kiwanis Club of Point Loma has provided this popular community service for the people of San Diego.
Easter morning, the gates to Cabrillo National Monument will open at 6:00 a.m. with the non-denominational service beginning at 6:30 a.m. There is seating for approximately 500 attendees, and the public is encouraged to arrive early.
The speakers this year are Captain Jeff M. Yackeren, Commanding Officer Naval Base Point Loma and Neill Kovrig, Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor for the California/Nevada/Hawaii Division. Our Chaplain this year is Lieutenant Commander Benjamim M. Box, Command Chaplain Naval Base San Diego. He will conduct the service. This year, our soloist will be JoJo Cadwell, who will be accompanied by Nina Gilbert. The Young Marines of San Diego Color Guard will open the ceremony.
The National Park Service has generously provided the Cabrillo National Monument facilities for the past 73 years for Easter Sunrise Services. The visitor and parking fees imposed by the National Park Service for visiting the Cabrillo National Monument are not in effect for the Easter Sunrise Services, but you will be asked to leave prior to the 9 a.m. park opening. The National Park Service asks that you remember that Cabrillo National Monument is a no-smoking area, and they ask that you watch your speed entering the park area. Bicyclists favor the entry road, so please be careful. A fellowship time with hot beverages and pastries will occur immediately following the service.
Dress warm, bring a blanket. 500 chairs will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own chair.

EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE AT CABRILLO MONUMENT (Press release)
Cabrillo National Monument, Point Loma, Sunday, April 9, 2023 -- The Kiwanis Club of Point Loma will again present an ecumenical Easter Sunrise Service at the Cabrillo National Monument. The services will be held in the lower parking lot, giving those who attend a great early morning panoramic view of San Diego Harbor and the city behind it.
Club President, Joanna DaCosta points out that this year’s services will mark the 72nd consecutive year (minus the two covid years) that the Kiwanis Club of Point Loma has provided this popular community service for the people of San Diego.
Easter is April 9th this year and the gates to Cabrillo National Monument will open at 6:00 a.m. with the non-denominational service beginning at 6:30 a.m. There is seating for approximately 500 attendees and the public is encouraged to arrive early. Please feel free to bring your own chairs and blankets. There is enough room for everybody comfortably to enjoy the service. No pets please.
The speakers this year are Captain Kenneth R Franklin, Commanding Officer Naval Base Point Loma and Gary Jander, Kiwanis International trustee and past Governor Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha district. Our Chaplain conducting the service this year is Lieutenant John Kim, Chaplain Naval Base Point Loma. This year our soloists will be Jojo Cadwell and Amanda da Rosa. They will be accompanied by keyboardist Nina Gilbert. The Young Marines of San Diego Color Guard will open the ceremony.

Sick of the crap? We will take it! Kiwanis Club of Point Loma is hosting our annual Rummage Sale Fundraiser on February 11th at All Souls Episcopal Church. We are in need of your donations to make our sale successful. No large furniture accepted as those items are too hard to move if they don't sell. Call or text for pick up and drop off info. We appreciate your continued support of our club!

TODAY is GIVING TUESDAY! Please consider purchasing a dozen or more Cookies For Troops. They will be packed in boxes decorated by local students and delivered to our local troops, local firestations, and Veterans Village on Saturday, December 10th. The link to purchase is on the flier. This morning was the 71st annual Easter Sunrise Service that the Point Loma Kiwanis Club held at Cabrillo National Monument. It may have been one of the more successful. The turnout was FANTASTIC! Thank you Point Loma and San Diego. After a 2 year hiatus because of covid, we were unsure what would happen. But the community turned out and made it a very successful morning.
Our thanks to Captain Franklin, Commanding Officer of Naval Base Point Loma, LT Edwin Handley, Chaplain USS Somerset, LTJG Wendy Byhjongjan, Chaplain Naval Hospital, Craig Bratlien, Past LT Governor Kiwanis Division 21, Jojo Cadwell, our soloist and her accompanist, Nina Gilbert.

After a 2 year hiatus for the event due to Covid protocols, the club is resuming the Easter Service. This will mark the 71st year that the Kiwanis Club of Point Loma has provided this popular community service for the people of San Diego.

Feel free to bring your own chairs if you wish to sit off to the side as we have plenty of space.

The Kiwanis Club of Pt Loma as sponsors to the High Tech High International Key Club would like your support in helping this Canned Food Drive be a success.
Due to the health issues surrounding the Corona Virus, the Point Loma Kiwanis Club has cancelled it's Easter Sunrise Service. We do hope to resume again next year.
