"Sometimes it's the little things that matter...it's just showing up, listening, caring, laughing together, and most importantly, just being there to do it all over again."

What does it mean to be a CASA for 11 years? It’s about sharing simple moments together and proving to a child that you will show up, again and again, to build that foundational trust.

When Kavita became an empty nester over a decade ago, she stepped out of her comfort zone to do exactly that. Since then, she has been a steadfast Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and a consistent, unwavering presence for three incredible young women.

She met her current youth when the child was just 11. Through dozens of group home placements and numerous school transfers across San Diego County, CASA Kavita remained the one constant. Today, as that youth begins a beautiful new chapter as a mother, CASA Kavita reflects on the profound impact they’ve had on each other, sharing lessons in resilience, patience, self-advocacy, and plenty of competitive Uno and Connect 4.

Thank you, CASA Kavita, for 11 years of dedication. Your profound commitment to simply being there when it matters most has changed the trajectory of these young women's lives. We are so incredibly grateful for your heart, your patience, and your lifelong advocacy.

When someone is counting on you, you show up, no matter what.

For the past eight years, José has served as a CASA with Voices for Children, standing by children in foster care when they need it most. In this moving speech, CASA José reflects on his journey advocating for Jason, supporting reunification with his mother, Elizabeth, and celebrating a major milestone: graduating from high school this year.

CASA José shares how his background in the Marine Corps and the Young Marines program shaped his approach to mentorship, providing a dependable, consistent presence that acts as a lifeline during uncertain times. He also highlights the incredible impact of male CASA volunteers, calling on them to shine their light for vulnerable youth.

"Jason was my first starfish, but he will not be my last."

Meet Kavita, a dedicated team member at MG Properties for over 21 years who decided to try being a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) through Voices for Children for just a year or two, and is still volunteering a decade later. Her extraordinary dedication, including delivering care packages 🎁 during the pandemic, driving three and a half hours for out-of-county visits 🚗, and standing by her youth through 22 different placements and six different schools 📚, reminds us of the life-changing power of consistency, trust, and simply showing up.

That spirit of commitment runs through her entire workplace. For over a decade, MG Properties and CEO Mark Gleiberman have cultivated an incredible culture of giving back in partnership with Voices for Children. From company-wide events like 5K walks, annual golf ⛳️ tournaments, "Pie for a Purpose" fundraisers 🥧, to assembling bicycles for kids in foster care 🚲, their team proves that corporate giving can be both impactful and fun.

🎬 Tonight at Starry Starry Night, we are honored to premiere a deeply moving story of resilience, guidance, and how dedicated CASA advocacy helps make family reunification possible. See the life-changing impact a dedicated male advocate can have when a child needs guidance most.

Meet Jose, a retired Marine, husband, and father of two, who answered the call to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with Voices for Children. When he was paired with Jason, a young boy facing the fear and isolation of being separated from his family, what began with hesitation grew into a transformative bond. Through CASA Jose’s consistent presence, steady guidance, and advocacy, Jason felt seen, supported, and heard during his hardest moments, ultimately leading to the outcome everyone hoped for: returning home to his mother.

Today, Jason is home, thriving, and looking forward to his future. All because a dedicated CASA chose to show up for him. 💙

CASA Jose and Jason’s journey is a powerful testament to what happens when men in our community step up to guide youth through crisis.
