Marines sharpen their marksmanship skills at every opportunity, because expeditionary aviation support demands more than technical proficiency. Whether building runways, pumping fuel, or providing security for forward sites, every Marine in MWSS-473 is first and foremost a rifleman.
That mindset ensures our squadron is ready to support aviation operations in any environment.

Did you know?
MWSS-473 Marines are trained to establish Forward Arming and Refueling Points (FARPs) temporary fuel and rearming sites that allow aircraft to stay in the fight without returning to a main base.
From AH-1Z Vipers to MV-22 Ospreys, these FARPs extend the reach of Marine aviation and give commanders the ability to project power quickly in austere environments.
It’s one of the many ways MWSS-473 provides essential aviation ground support wherever the mission takes us.

MWSS-473 Marines in the Expeditionary Airfield Platoon put their expeditionary skills to work this past drill weekend!
This training gives our Marines hands-on experience building aircraft parking and servicing areas, the same work we’d do in the field to support aviation operations. From staging and locking panels in place to quality checks and teardown, the team knocked it out quickly and efficiently.
These reps keep us sharp and ready to set up forward arming and refueling points or landing zones wherever the mission requires.
