The University Community Branch Library has been officially reopened! 📚
Some of the long-awaited upgrades include new flooring, new technology, expanded areas for teens and children, and more — ready to enjoy! Our libraries are so much more than books; they’re a gathering place where our community learns, grows, and belongs.
Special thanks to Branch Manager Melissa Martin and San Diego Library Director Misty Jones for their hard work leading this project.

“My heart is with every victim, every grieving family, and San Diego’s Muslim community. Our city mourns with you following the horrific act of violence at the Islamic Center of San Diego.
Teachers, children, and people of faith who gathered in peace were instead met by armed cowards who terrorized not only a place of worship, but a school filled with children. We should call this what it is: hate.
Given the young age of the shooters, we have to acknowledge a terrible truth: too many young people are being consumed by online extremism, hate, and radicalization before families, communities, and institutions can intervene.
Islamophobia — along with other forms of hate, racism, and extremism — leads to violence when it is allowed to spread unchecked. San Diego must stand united in rejecting these hateful ideologies without compromise and without exception.
I want to thank the first responders from SDPD, the Sheriff’s Department, and law enforcement agencies across the region who acted quickly and courageously to protect lives and secure the community — as well as the emergency personnel, nurses, doctors, and hospital staff who are caring for the victims. These heroes showed the real San Diego today.
We will not be deterred from exercising our right to live in a city where every person — regardless of faith, race, or background — can live, worship, and raise their children without fear.”
