Want cleaner rivers and beaches? Then don’t trash our roads. That trash can be blown or flushed by storms into storm drains that empty directly into local waterways. Caltrans clean-up crews recently prevented that at the I-8 Fletcher Parkway exit in La Mesa. 💙🚮

About 33,000 traffic crashes happened along the shoulder of a road in 2024 — and nearly 600 were deadly.

Today, we remember Richard Gonzalez, Equipment Operator ll. On June 20, 2011, Mr. Gonzalez was struck by vehicle on a freeway connector ramp while working with a Special Programs Crew to remove trash from the freeway.. 🧡

🛣️ Expect delays along State Route 75 (SR-75) throughout the weekend.

Caltrans will configure the movable barrier on the managed lanes of the San Diego–Coronado Bay Bridge to accommodate event traffic throughout the weekend. To give people early notice of this weekend’s events, Caltrans issued an Encroachment Permit to NASCAR to place Portable Changeable Message Signs around the Interstate 5 area, specifically between Interstate 8 and State Route 905. Caltrans will be supplementing with Fixed Changeable Message Signs during the three days of the event.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for the event (the base will be accessible as early as 7 a.m.) and be patient as the base works to get everyone in. All other motorists are encouraged to avoid Coronado and its SR-75 entry points to avoid getting caught in traffic.

NASCAR San Diego Weekend at Naval Base Coronado begins tomorrow, June 19. A quick update for residents and visitors: please expect increased traffic, congestion, and delays throughout the island.

City Hall and Public Services facilities will be closed to the public on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Caltrans crews cleaned this encampment along SR-52 in Santee. Caltrans works with our social service partners to provide support to people living in encampments. More than eight cubic yards of debris were hauled away, enough to fill three full-size pickups.
