Spring into Poetry. Did you know that April is National Poetry month? If you haven't had a chance, stop by our library to read some poems created by students at Black Mountain Middle School and our library users. The poems are posted in our children's area, thanks to our volunteers and Black Mountain Middle School Librarian, Mrs. Brown.
The reason we have this wall of poems up is because our library is 1 of only 8 libraries chosen to participate in the “Be Mighty for Your Library Challenge” hosted by author Kwame Alexander (The Mighty Macy) and EveryLibrary!
Now till April 25, we invite youth ages 6-16 to complete any of the following Be Mighty Actions:
*Sign up for a library card
*Use a library card
*Check out a book
*Bring a friend or family member to the Library
*Attend a Library program
After the challenge, 3 winning library communities will receive a prize package that includes $1,000 donation split equally between the public and school library partner for future literacy programming.
Be mighty for your library and stop by our library today to support public libraries and our local school, Black Mountain Middle!

FREE family friendly show by La Jolla Play House. We're so honored to be a part of their POP Tour this year! Show is free and is first come first served. Ideal for students in grades 3 – 6.
Saturday, April 4th, 2026 at 3:00pm in our Community Room. For more information about the show and POP Tour: https://lajollaplayhouse.org/pop-tour-2026/.
About the show:
Georgie, a shy fourth-grader with a hidden talent for guitar, panics when asked to read aloud and ends up in the principal’s office, sparking an unexpected friendship with the fearless and ever-curious Inez. While Georgie worries about her grandfather in the hospital, she discovers an old story he once wrote: the magical tale of two fantastical creatures: Goyo and Gato. With help from her new BFF Inez, Georgie finds the courage to face her reading challenges and brings the story to life — just in time for the Festival de Primavera. In the end, talents are discovered, a family bond is deepened, and the story finds its perfect ending: ¡Colorín, Colorado, este cuento se ha acabado!
