would like to thank the Child and Family Well-Being and for supporting our endeavor to connect thousands of foster families and transitioning youth with reliable technology.
For 24 years we have been providing foster families and transitioning youth with desperately needed computers. The partnership between the County and SDFF stretches back more than two decades. What began with just five events in 2001–2002 has since evolved into a long-standing initiative delivering thousands of devices to foster youth, relatives, and extended family caregivers.
According to Brandon Harrison, Executive Director for , “These families and youth are selected because technology access will make a real difference in their lives,”. That difference is substantial.
For many foster youth, inconsistent access to computers has long created a “homework gap,” forcing them to rely on library or school devices that aren't always available. Having their own computer means the ability to complete assignments at home, conduct research, apply for college or jobs, participate in virtual mentoring, and stay connected with teachers and supportive adults.
“We expect a profound impact,” Harrison said. “These computers level the playing field.”
