The Simple Walk
Chapter 11 Perilous Times Are Here
**Perilous Times and Perilous Men**
In today's world, the signs of perilous times are all around us. From the chaos and confusion in global politics to the rampant environmental degradation, from the breakdown of societal norms to the erosion of moral values, we are undeniably living in challenging times. This chapter delves into the nature of these perilous times, their impact on our spiritual walk, and how we can navigate them with faith and resilience.
Recognizing the Signs
The scriptures have long forewarned of times such as these.
In 2 Timothy 3:1-9 (KJV), we are given a vivid description of the last days:
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,
7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;
9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.
This passage is not merely a prediction but a call to awareness.
The Impact on Our Spiritual Walk
Living in such times can test our faith and resilience. The noise of the world can drown out the gentle whispers of the Spirit, making it harder to stay grounded in our spiritual practices. The constant barrage of negativity can lead to feelings of despair and hopelessness. However, it is precisely in these times that our faith can shine the brightest.
Staying Grounded in Faith
To navigate perilous times, we must anchor ourselves in our faith. Here are a few practices that can help:
* Prayer and Meditation: Regular prayer and meditation can help us stay connected to our inner peace and divine guidance. Setting aside time each day for these practices can ground us in the present moment and provide clarity amidst chaos.
* Scripture Study: Immersing ourselves in the scriptures can remind us of God's promises and the strength of those who came before us. Reflecting on the lives of biblical figures who faced their own trials can inspire us to persevere.
* Community Support: Surrounding ourselves with a supportive faith community can provide encouragement and accountability. Sharing our struggles and triumphs with others can strengthen our resolve.
Building Resilience
Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity. In perilous times, it is an essential quality to develop. Here are some ways to build resilience:
* Adaptability: Being open to change and willing to adapt to new circumstances can help us navigate uncertainty with grace.
* Self-Care: Taking care of our physical, emotional, and mental health is crucial. Regular exercise, healthy eating, and mindfulness practices can enhance our well-being.
* Positive Mindset: Cultivating a positive mindset and focusing on gratitude can shift our perspective from what is wrong to what is right in our lives.
Finding Hope
Even in the darkest times, there is always hope. The scriptures remind us in Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV), "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." Holding onto this promise can help us move forward with confidence, knowing that God is in control God has an expected end for us.
A Challenge to the Faithful
As we face these perilous times, let us not only pray for the Lord's return but also take active steps to reach out to those who are lost and broken. In Luke 14:23 (NKJV), Jesus says, "Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.'" We must go beyond the walls of our churches and reach out to those in need, showing them the love and hope found in Christ.
We cannot escape the challenges by hiding and praying only for ourselves. We have work to do... We have not shed any blood for the salvation of this world. We don't get to make judgment calls and tip out the back door when trouble arises, when politics get crazy, and when we are not satisfied with the sins of the world. Get up off those church pews and obey God... Do the work of your ministry. Spread the good news and stop trying to escape into glory.
Do your job... lead men to Christ.
The Man of God and the Word of God
The Apostle Paul offers further guidance in 2 Timothy 3:10-17 (KJV):
10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, long suffering, charity, patience,
11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Prayer:
Father we come to you today knowing that perilous times are here. But Father we know that with your help these times are not insurmountable. Father help us to stay grounded in our faith, building resilience, and finding hope in Your promises. By following Your supreme plan we can navigate these challenging times with strength and grace. We remember, it is often in the most difficult moments that our faith is refined and our character is strengthened. God let us walk this simple walk with courage and conviction, trusting that we are never alone. We thank you because we know you and that you always answer our prayers.
