The Navy formally established Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1 in San Diego Oct. 1, 2009. "America's Favorite Aircraft Carrier" USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) is CSG-1's flagship, complemented with her embarked air power Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2. Led by Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 1, USS Lake Champlain (CG 57), USS Michael P Murphy (DDG 112), and USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) round out the Carl Vinson Strike Group.

Two U.S Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets and two F-35C Lightning IIs from Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif. joined Air Force B-1B Lancers and F-15C Eagles for a joint flyover for Super Bowl LX.
This historic Air Force/Navy flyover involving the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, and California Air National Guard commemorated America’s 250th anniversary.
