It was an honor and privilege to host Major General Borgschulte (Third Marine Airwing). USS TULSA is the future of Mine Warfare, and to share that vision with the USMC is invaluable as we move forward with our shared mission.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE
“The Battle of Midway is often referred to as the turning point in the Pacific during WWII, where the campaign had a momentum shift, and our Navy’s defensive posture became an insurmountable offensive posture… Not only was history made at this small island, but modern Naval warfare itself has changed. Today, as we gather to commemorate the significance of the battle of midway and those who served in it, we also celebrate the battle’s evolving legacy… Here and now, we all can see the importance of why this heritage is deliberately passed down to the next generation, who now train for war, and must be inspired to find new ways of meeting challenges… We have Midway to serve as our marker to serve as a strong example of who we are, why we exist, and consider how naval legacies are made.”

The Meritorious Advancement Program is intended to give COs the opportunity to recognize their best Sailors by advancing them when they are ready for the next level of responsibility. The program gives greater authority to commands to better shape their workforce and the Navy by developing and rewarding our most talented Sailors.

When USS Tulsa needs support, who do we call? The Navy Reserves!
Shoutout to BM2 Fernandez for his critical support these past two weeks. Thank you, Boats! It’s because of sailors like you that Tulsa and her crew are able to push through this DSRA. Bravo Zulu, Shipmate!

The weather may have shut down our burger burn, but that won’t stop us from decompressing with a little Chik-Fil-A and board games!

What do we do when Portland experiences its second-largest snow storm on record (10.8 inches)? Keep standing a vigilant watch, obviously! A little snow never kept a TULSA sailor from their mission.
Shoutout to our Executive Officer CDR Thomas for staying with the duty section and coordinating a safe turnover while Portland’s roads proved largely impassable.

When a sailor hears the rapid ringing of the bells, will they be ready?
The DCI and 8010-Ch.12 drills are designed around ships in an industrial environment, and that provides its own unique set of challenges. There were many lessons learned from the incident onboard the USS Bonhomme Richard, and those lessons have lead to the implementation of new drills and trainings meant to make sure every sailor is prepared when they hear those bells ring.
TULSA BLUE recently completed the DCI and 8010 drills. The possibility of having to respond to a casualty is a very real and sobering possibility while in the yards, but with this training and certification under our belt, we are more ready than ever to defend our ship and see Her sail again.
USS TULSA.
Tough. Able. Ready.
