As we celebrate Black History Month, we endeavor to honor the legacy of Shirley Chisholm. She was the first black woman to be elected to the United States Congress in 1968 and the first to run for a Presidential nomination in 1972. Her seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives were marked by outspoken and unrelenting advocacy for the rights of minorities and women.
The wisdom and tenacity of Shirley Chisholm inspires us to continue her legacy by advocating for social equity.

This Saturday, February 10th, commences Chinese Lunar New Year. This will be the year of the Wood Dragon. Of all the elements, wood represents the capability to look forward, to plan and to make decisions. The Dragon represents confident ambition with an element of charisma. The two together combine to frame a year destined for exploration, learning, and staying curious. Happy Lunar New Year!

Welcome to our new Account Manager, Julie Schaller. Dynamic and experienced with an energetic personality, she brings a wealth of industry knowledge to our public engagement services for large transportation and land use projects. Julie is leading our team for new projects for the County and ongoing communications for water agencies. She was also instrumental in landing a new public engagement contract with SANDAG. We’re honoring and celebrating Día De Los Mu***os, a holiday dedicated to remembering deceased relatives and friends. Celebrations can last for days or even weeks leading up to the evening of October 31st through November 2nd. Rituals include decorating graves or preparing altars called “ofrendas” or “offerings” that are decorated with the purpose of welcoming home the souls of loved ones lost.

Join CityWorks in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! What began as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 has expanded to a month-long celebration beginning on September 15th, the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile honor their independence days on September 16th and September 18th, respectively. In San Diego celebrate at these events: Casual Coworking: Connecting for Impact on October 4 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 3619 El Cajon Blvd, and the All of Us Festival on October 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Chrysalis at Monarch School located at 1805 Main Street. As each city struggles with increasing homeless, exacerbated by a housing shortage and a world-wide pandemic, we want to recognize those who are pioneering ways to address this challenge. As a part of the Arch + City Program of events held by the San Francisco Chapter of the American Institute of Architects this last month, a tour of the 1064 Mission Street project that provides permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless adults and seniors was held. Architects from Herman Coliver Locus and Owners and Episcopal Community Services (ECS) led the tour for a project that includes: individual living spaces, gathering spaces (indoors and out), offices for medical staff, case workers, and the SF Homeless Team, and facilities for the CHEFS Kitchen Workforce Development Program. Spaces are generous, thoughtfully designed, both aesthetically and functionally, and welcoming to residents, staff and visitors. As we continue to revitalize and re-imagine our cities, this project gives us a humane and logical road map for housing those most in need.
