Not all stories are told loudly. 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day weekend, we pause at Piazza Basilone, a space rooted in legacy, sacrifice, and community. Created to honor GySgt John Basilone and the “Boys That Never Came Home,” this piazza stands as a tribute to those who gave everything in service to our country.

From World War II to Korea and Vietnam, their names are etched into histor and into the heart of Little Italy. This weekend, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the lives they never got to fully live. As the flags of the United States, Italy, Portugal, and Mexico fly above, they remind us of the diverse stories, families, and dreams behind each name.

From market booth to brick & mortar ✨

Some of Little Italy’s most loved spots started with a simple setup at the Little Italy Mercato Farmers' Market — just a table, a dream, and something worth sharing.

Today, names like and have grown into full storefronts right here in the neighborhood… proof that big things really do start small 🤍

The Mercato isn’t just a mid-week or weekend stroll, it’s a launchpad for local vendors, artisans, and makers ready to take that next step. So if you’ve been thinking about joining… this is your sign.

You never know where it might take you.

Giorno della Mamma 💐✨

Start the day slow with mimosas at (because obviously 🥂) cute, light, just enough to kick things off without ending the day early.

Then head into a seafood-forward brunch moment at — think fresh oysters, coastal vibes, and if you’re doing a later brunch… their $1 oysters + happy hour (3–5PM) is kind of the move 👀

After brunch, take a stroll and stop by Extraordinary Desserts for something sweet (because no Mother’s Day is complete without dessert… and these are next level 🍰✨)

And before you head out, grab mom something special 💐
Stop by the for flowers + the cutest little extras (yes it’s open every Saturday in Little Italy… totally worth it)

The Little Italy Association and Our Lady of the Rosary Church support safer streets and bike infrastructure in Little Italy. Our concern is ensuring the current State Street bike lane design is safe and accessible for everyone — including cyclists, elderly parishioners, individuals with disabilities, families, wedding parties, and funeral processions accessing the church.

As currently designed, the proposed Class IV Cycle Track would place a 10-foot bike lane between the curb and a floating loading zone directly in front of the church, creating potential conflicts between cyclists and pedestrians crossing to and from vehicles over the Cycle Track from the floating loading zone. Instead, LIA and OLR are advocating to reestablish direct curbside parking/access and installation of a Class III bike lane (Sharrow) in lane adjacent to curbside parking in front of the church supporting bike access through the block.

With more than 1,300 events held at Our Lady of the Rosary each year, almost 4 events a day on average, we believe there is a safer, more balanced solution that protects both cyclists and parishioners while maintaining direct curbside access to the church.

We encourage community members to respectfully share their feedback with Mayor Todd Gloria at [email protected].

Little Italy didn’t happen overnight… it grew, one story at a time 🤍

It starts with icons like , serving the neighborhood since 1950, a true staple that’s seen it all.

Then came places like , opening its doors in the early ‘90s and helping shape Little Italy into the destination it is today.

The Little Italy sign (est. 1996) — more than a landmark, it marked the start of the neighborhood’s revival 🇮🇹✨

Families like the Busalacchis continued that legacy, building gathering spaces all throughout Little Italy, bringing nostalgia to each dish and keeping Italian tradition alive with places like .Zucchero.

Community spaces like Piazza Basilone gave the neighborhood a place to gather, celebrate, and connect.

And in 2008, the Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market began with just a handful of vendors… now over 200 strong.

From old-school staples to new beginnings… this is how Little Italy continues to evolve ✨
