“Finding ways to elevate the richness and beauty of Latinx histories, cultures, and traditions helps create spaces where students feel valued and respected,” shares Valentín Escañuela, executive leadership coach in SDCOE’s Equity department.

To support educators, SDCOE created a guide to observing Hispanic Heritage Month and the Equity Blueprint for Action that are both available on our website. They provide actionable ways to honor the diversity, contributions, and history of Hispanic Americans so all students thrive in our schools. Visit https://bit.ly/3LoZtp1 to learn more.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and is a great opportunity to listen and learn from our students and community members now and throughout the year.

November is Native American Heritage Month and SDCOE in partnership with California Indian Education for All created a guide for educators to teach Thanksgiving with culturally-relevant and respectful learning experiences in the classroom. As with many holidays, it represents something very different to each person and these resources are gathered to help educators with tools and resources to support students and young people in their desire to see positive representation of contributions from people of all backgrounds. https://www.sdcoe.net/about-sdcoe/news/post/~board/news/post/thanksgiving-teaching-toolkit
