We have big news! The last time we wrote about the garden, we were asking for your help in getting the ground ready by removing the weeds. Since then, we have done a lot of work behind the scenes! In addition, we have garnered support from San Diego Master Gardeners to make the garden accessible with quality irrigation and trees for our orchard. In short, they’re helping us make it a great fit for our community!

We are so excited to announce that the next stage of building the Normal Heights Community Garden is here! In coordination with the City Council District 9 Office and the SD Department of Parks and Recreation, we are participating in an event at Ward Canyon Park and Normal Heights Community Garden on Saturday February 7th from 9AM to Noon. This will be an opportunity for our community to engage in the beautification of the Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park and help us distribute mulch, donated by the City of San Diego, at the Community Garden. The City is providing a few rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows but feel free to bring your own!

There will be activities for all ages and abilities so come on out and meet your neighbors and celebrate this new phase of development for the community garden that we have all been waiting and working for! There will be refreshments courtesy of sponsors The Selby Team.

Notification from city regarding metered parking in our area.

FYI

From: Maciel, Fatima

Subject: New Parking Meters on Adams Ave

Good morning,

The City of San Diego will be mailing notification letters to residents and businesses in the surrounding areas of select streets in Normal Heights, Kensington-Talmadge, and City Heights to inform them of upcoming changes to on-street parking regulations.
As part of an effort to promote parking turnover and improve parking availability for visitors and business patrons, the City will be installing metered two- and four-hour time-limit parking on designated street segments within these communities. A recent parking study identified several locations with consistently high parking occupancy and long parking durations, indicating a need for improved on-street parking management.
The mailed notices (see attached) will provide details regarding:
The streets affected by the new metered, time-limited parking
The effective hours of operation (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday, excluding holidays)
Information about the residential parking permit program available for Sunday parking at meters
The anticipated installation timeline, beginning in February 2026
These notifications are intended to ensure that nearby residents, property owners, and businesses are informed well in advance of the changes and understand the purpose and benefits of the new parking management approach.
Please feel free to share this information with your networks. If you have questions or would like additional details regarding the mailing or the parking changes, do not hesitate to reach out.
Best,

Fatima Maciel (she/her)

Want to talk to our council member's office about the permanent plan for the dog park?

A staff member from Sean Elo-Rivera’s office will meet with concerned dog owners next Tuesday, July 30 at 3 pm at the small dusty dog park off of 40th at Ward Canyon Park.

The agenda includes informing her of our concerns regarding unexpected change to the permanent plan for the off leash area.

Please be there to express your support for the largest possible area for our pooches.

And pass the word to your neighbors in person and on Nextdoor.

05/30/2024

As mentioned earlier, plans for the permanent off leash area are being "finalized". Your help is needed to encourage the city and CalTrans to agree on releasing their section of 40th street so that we get all the square footage we have been expecting. Come to the CRG meetings on the 4th Tuesday of the month.
