This week, we celebrated the achievements of more than 44 participants who successfully completed the 80-hour Peer Support Specialist Initial Training. This milestone marks the completion of the program’s first phase. Participants will now move into the next phase, which includes career readiness training, professional development opportunities, internship placement support and employment services designed to help them enter and thrive in the behavioral health workforce.

This initiative is made possible through our partnership with NAMI San Diego. We were honored to have members of the NAMI team join us in recognizing participants’ accomplishments and presenting certificates. Special thanks to Anna Maker and Ollin Stowers for attending in person, and to Brianna Castro for joining virtually to celebrate this important milestone with our participants.

Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the histories, cultures and contributions of Indigenous communities, including the Kumeyaay, Luiseño (Payómkawichum), Cupeño (Kuupangaxwichem) and Cahuilla (Ivilyuqaletem) peoples, whose ancestral and present-day homelands make up the San Diego region.

At the San Diego Workforce Partnership, we’re committed to uplifting Indigenous voices and supporting equitable access to education, career pathways and economic opportunity.
