Seat Belts Save Lives!
 
Thankfully, the driver involved in this crash was properly utilizing a seatbelt which reduced serious injuries and likely contributed to saving their life.       

Too many lives are impacted each year because vehicle occupants are not properly restrained. 
 
The motoring public is reminded to:

Use seatbelts properly during every trip:
Shoulder belt should be worn across the chest area
Lap belt should be worn low and across the hip/pelvic area
Do not place the seatbelt behind your back or underneath your arm
Children must be properly restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat as appropriate.
 
Buckle up San Diego and drive safely!

The three right lanes of Interstate 15 Southbound between Hillery Drive and Carroll Canyon Road will be closed.

In addition, the eastbound Mira Mesa Boulevard on-ramp to Interstate 15 Southbound will be closed during this time.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider using alternate routes

Please remember to slow down and move over for first responders and highway workers while traveling through the area.

Today, June 20th starting at 6 PM until Sunday morning at 6 AM, California Highway Patrol will be conducting a maximum enforcement looking for DUI Drivers. Make sure you designate a sober driver or use a ride share program.

San Diego Police Department conducted an enforcement stop on Derrick Drive east of Genesee Avenue near the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) facility. Out of an abundance of caution and to facilitate ongoing investigation efforts, Derrick Drive and the DMV were subsequently closed.

Questions related to this incident should be directed to San Diego Police Department.
