County Democratic Chair Condemns Racist Attack on County Supervisor

As someone who represents San Diego County, I want to be clear:

What was said to San Diego County Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe was hateful, racist, and deeply wrong. The use of a racial slur against a Black woman leader is not just offensive. It is violent, dehumanizing, and rooted in a long and painful history of oppression.

Concluding this year's 45th Annual Roosevelt Dinner award series, we dedicate our 2025 Making a Difference Award in memory of Becca Taylor, whose profound legacy as a leader and changemaker continues to inspire our community. Becca served as Chair of the San Diego Democratic Party from 2022 to 2024, was a veteran of the United States Navy, a co-founder and the first woman to Chair the California Young Democrats Veterans Caucus, a Volunteer Manager for the San Diego Rapid Response Network, and much more. Her kindness, passion, and tireless advocacy served as a powerful force for good, and continue to inspire everyone in our Democratic community and beyond to strive for positive change.
