On May 14th, during a special meeting, the Air Pollution Control District Governing Board voted (5-4) against developing a clean air rule - indirect source rule (ISR) - to reduced cancer-causing pollution from warehouses and distribution centers in San Diego.

While the motion ultimately failed, we thank Supervisor Paloma Aguirre, Doctor Anne Marie Birkbeck-Garcia, Georgette Gomez, and Paula Stigler Granados for voting to move the ISR process forward.

Despite the setback, our community remains resilient and ready to continue fighting for a San Diego where all people live, work and play in a clean and safe environment.

San Diego County remains on strong financial footing, allowing us to make responsible investments in the services, programs, and communities we were elected to serve. At the same time, housing affordability continues to be one of the greatest challenges across our region. That is why investing in the Innovative Housing Trust Fund was such an important priority for me.

I worked hard to secure and pass this funding because our families deserve real action on housing affordability. I want to thank my colleagues for supporting this investment and helping us deliver for the people of San Diego County.

Our thoughts are immediately with the congregation, the victims, and everyone impacted by this sudden and senseless act of violence.

Please stay clear of the vicinity to allow the San Diego Police Department and emergency personnel the space they need to secure the scene, manage the situation, and keep the public safe.

On May Day, we honor International Workers’ Day, a day rooted in the fight for dignity, fairness, and respect for working people everywhere.

We recognize the people who wake before sunrise, who leave their homes, their children, and their neighborhoods in the early hours and return late into the night, keeping our communities moving forward.

We answer the call to do better by standing for fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity for every worker, because when we uplift workers, we uplift entire communities. Thank you to and all who helped organize this empowering event!

Huge thanks to for shedding light on the Tijuana River crisis. Our community is past the breaking point. We can’t afford any more delays. It’s time to treat this like the disaster it is and declare a state of emergency now.
