USS Somerset (LPD 25) Ombudsman Welcome to the Official USS Somerset [LPD25] Family Ombudsman Page! An Ombudsman is an official representative of the Commanding Officer.

A Navy Ombudsman is a trained volunteer appointed by the Commanding Officer to serve as a liasion between command and its families. The USS Somerset (LPD 25) Ombudsman is a trained volunteer military spouse who serves as a communications link for all family members – spouses, parents and extended family members. He/she plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining current and accurate communication between the command and it's family members. As well as providing resources in a time of need. The Ombudsman Code of Ethics guarantees support of the command’s mission, professionalism and confidentiality, within program guidelines. An Ombudsman is required to report:

1. Potential or attempted su***de

2. Suspected and established child abuse and/or neglect

3. Suspected and established spouse abuse, drug and/or alcohol abuse

4. Potential homicide or violent life threatening behavior

5. Any suspected sexual abuse by a Uniformed Service Member

6. Everything else the Commanding Officer sees necessary to know

⚠️🚨 HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT 🚨⚠️

A heat advisory has been issued for San Diego. With elevated temperatures expected to last until Thursday, October 8th. The heat index is expected to reach above 90°F. Take proactive steps now to prevent heat-related illness.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids (water and electrolyte solutions). Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and heavy, hot meals.

Pet Protection: Keep pets indoors with fresh water. Remember: if the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it is too hot for their paws!

Vehicle Safety: Interior car temperatures can become fatal in mere minutes, even with windows cracked. Never leave kids or pets in vehicles

Stay Cool: Remain indoors in air-conditioned spaces as much as possible.

Ensure your ceiling fan is rotating counterclockwise and use the pedestal fan for additional circulation.
Cool showers can help lower body temperature.
Open your windows during the cooler parts of the days, such as early mornings and evenings, to let in fresh air.
Keep blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day to block out direct sunlight and prevent your room from heating up.
If you prop your entry door open for a cross breeze, be mindful of the security risk and never leave propped open when room is unattended.

* Admiral Robinson Recreation Center (Bowling Alley) - BLDG 3223 Hours- Friday & Saturday 0900-0000 and Sunday-Thursday 0900-1000
* Liberty Center Hours Friday-Saturday- 0900-2300, Sunday- Thursday 0900-2200

🎤 San Diego, get ready! Pitbull and Gwen Stefani will take the stage at Naval Base San Diego on October 10 for a FREE Operation MWR concert hosted by Navy Entertainment and presented by USAA

EVENT ELIGIBILITY
This event is open to all valid Department of War (DoW) ID cardholders with base access. Eligible DoW ID cardholders with es**rting privileges, including Active Duty, Dependents, Retirees, Reservists, Veterans and DoW Civilians, may es**rt up to two (2) guests per DoW ID.

- Dependents, including children too young to qualify for a DoW ID, are not considered guests and do not count toward the two-guest limit.

- Guests must be in the same vehicle as their sponsor. Guests over
18 years of age must present a valid state or federal photo ID.

Non U.S. Citizen Guests (Foreign Nationals)
Non U.S. citizen guests must complete an additional vetting with their sponsor at the NBSD Visitor Control Center prior to the concert.

📅 Applications open September 15–November 18, 2026 — Online only

Who can apply?
✈️ Active-duty E5 and below
📍 Currently stationed in San Diego
👨‍👩‍👧 Single or married; spouses and dependent children ages 0–18 may travel
🚫 Pet travel is not covered

Travel Assistance:
✈️ Up to $500 per airfare ticket
🚗 Up to $125 for vehicle travel
