Join DSA in coming out to a solidarity rally for the REI store at 5556 Copley Drive, whose workers are holding an election this week to unionize with UFCW 135.

Afterwards we will march from there to the Teamster workers striking against Transdev (a 10 minute walk) and picket with them from 2pm-3pm at 7490 Copley Park Place!

Measure A is the “Second Homes Tax” which would tax property owners more for their second home in San Diego.

The primary purpose of the measure is to create an incentive to take homes that are sitting empty, and encourage the owner to rent the property to long term tenants or sell it, increasing housing supply and lowering housing costs. If they pay the tax, the City gets another source of revenue for the general fund, which the budget analysts office believes could be as high as 24 million dollars! And with the city budget facing a deficit as costs have risen, this is a progressive way to shorten the gap with the help of the wealthiest property owners in the City.

DSA San Diego has endorsed the measure and will be canvassing San Diego neighborhoods to build support with voters on the measure. We need to Tax The Rich in San Diego, because Homes Are For Living, Not For Hoarding.

DSA San Diego members' hearts and thoughts are with our Muslim communities that were attacked today at the Islamic Cultural Center.

This horrifying islamophobic act of violence against our local places of worship and peace, should never happen. Hate has no place in our country and we must condemn it in all its forms. All people deserve to worship and gather in peace, free from fear and hatred.

Today and everyday, we stand with the Muslim community to mourn those that lost their lives, and pray for a full recovery for those that were injured. We will continue our work to build a better world, and end these acts of senseless violence.
