The Department for the Study of Religion at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Islam in the Twenty-First Century, to begin Fall 2023. Applications are encouraged from scholars who work on contemporary Islam broadly. Candidates whose research focuses on gender, critical theories of race and/or intersectionality, ecology, decoloniality, or other related issues are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates should be able to articulate a clear and compelling vision of how their research in Islam engages with emerging and critical approaches to method and theory in the study of religion. Any geographical focus is invited, though because of the department’s already strong regional representation in South Asia, applications focusing on other regions will be prioritized.
