I’m obsessed with these moments from our last Family Story Hour with Jewish Family Service on 5/21. Seeing children reading to younger kids is truly heartwarming, it’s connection, confidence, and joy all in one, and such a beautiful reminder of the power of shared stories.

Spend a summer afternoon sharing the joy of reading with children and families at Summer Arts Fest at Liberty Station on Saturday, June 13 from 2:00–8:00 p.m.
Reading Legacies is looking for volunteers to help at our Story Corner, where families can explore free books, read together, and learn about the importance of reading aloud with children. Volunteers will help children choose books, welcome families, mark Exploration Passes, and help create a warm and joyful space for reading and connection.
Hosted by Arts District Liberty Station, Summer Arts Fest is a vibrant community celebration filled with local artists, live performances, workshops, food, and creativity for all ages.
If you’re a first-time volunteer, please complete the volunteer application https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=Q2g07I2fd0SzDzAXxXlVfcmn-0cN24VEth39VxhXSj1UQzE2TktRRFZLMzEwTks5WkNLR05JVzE0TyQlQCN0PWcu

For more than 35 years, Betty J. Mohlenbrock, M.Ed. has dedicated her life to helping children and families build connection through the power of reading aloud together.
As the founder of Reading Legacies and founder of United Through Reading, Betty’s work has impacted countless children and families through literacy, mentorship, and supportive relationships.
Her leadership and lifelong commitment to children have earned national recognition, including the Congressional Medal of Honor Society Community Service Hero Award, the Peter Drucker Award for Nonprofit Innovation, and L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth National Honoree.
But at the heart of her story is one simple belief: children thrive when someone takes the time to read with them.

Khloe began volunteering at Story Corner, where she loved helping families find the perfect books and seeing the community support behind our work. She now helps behind the scenes with Book Bridges through video editing, helping share powerful stories that connect families through reading.
This July, Khloe heads to the Navy’s Officer Candidate School, beginning an exciting new chapter. We’re so grateful for her compassion, dedication, and the impact she’s made at Reading Legacies.

Behind every confident reader is someone who took the time to sit, listen, and care.
Your work reaches far beyond the classroom.
We’re so grateful for you. 💛
