Call Directions Website

San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team Not all who wander are lost, but we search for the ones who are. On call, 24-7, 365, when people in our mountains and county need help.

When a hiker is missing or injured, or wildfire threatens foothill residents, or a child is missing, the Sheriff’s Department and Fire Departments call the San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team into action. We serve the area from the San Gabriel River to the east end of Los Angeles County, from Orange County to Angeles Crest. In addition, we stand ready to assist other teams and agencies locally and beyond when people are in need. This team is officially designated to respond to searches for missing children, overdue or lost hikers and downed aircraft in wilderness areas and parks, and to evacuate homeowners threatened by floods or advancing fires.

Yesterday, SDMRT was proud to participate in the 78th Annual Azusa Golden Days Parade, celebrating a longstanding community tradition inspired by the historic Route 66! For the second consecutive year, our team had the opportunity to join the celebration, connect with our community, and represent the volunteers dedicated to serving others. We’re grateful for the warm welcome and continued support from the Azusa community.

This past Saturday, four of our newest members successfully completed their final trainee exam, marking the completion of our 10-month Mountaineer Academy!

Throughout the academy, they trained and demonstrated proficiency in 27 Los Angeles County Search and Rescue standards, including technical climbing, rappelling, land navigation, helicopter operations, search techniques, tracking, and more.

Their achievement represents months of hard work, dedication, teamwork, and perseverance. We’re proud of their accomplishment and grateful to everyone who helped prepare them for this next step in their SAR journey.

Congratulations to our four newest probationary members! We look forward to seeing you grow as rescuers and serve our community alongside the team.

Anytime, Anywhere, So Others May Live.

A Spark of Support for San Dimas Mountain Rescue

We’re excited to share that San Dimas Mountain Rescue has received a $1,500 Spark Good Local Grant from the Sam’s Club in Glendora, CA! This generous grant will help us replenish our hydration and snack supplies—resources that are essential when our volunteer rescuers are spending long hours in the field.

During our recent three-day search on Iron Mountain, our team used a significant portion of our supplies while working in challenging terrain and conditions. Thanks to this grant, we can restock and be better prepared for the next call when our community needs us.

Behind every search are volunteers who give their time, training, and energy to help others. Community support like this helps us take care of the people who are out there taking care of others. A huge thank you to Sam’s Club in Glendora for supporting San Dimas Mountain Rescue and helping us stay prepared to answer the call.

Anytime. Anywhere. So others may live.

🐍 Stay Alert. Be Snake Smart. 🐍

Even as the weather starts to cool down, don't let your guard down — rattlesnakes are still active and moving around as they prep for the cooler months ahead. A change in temperature doesn't mean a change in caution. Keep an eye on the trail, avoid reaching into brush or rock piles you can't see into, and give any snake you spot plenty of space.

If someone is bitten:
📞 Call 911 immediately
🧍 Stay calm, keep still, and keep the bite below heart level
🚶 Walk to help — don't run
🚫 No tourniquets, no ice

Fast action saves lives. Adventure on, just stay snake smart out there. 🏔️

🏔️ KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. IT COULD SAVE A LIFE. 🏔️

As temperatures climb, so does your risk of heat-related illness on the trail. Do you know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke?

🟢 Heat Exhaustion — your body's warning sign. Heavy sweating, cool/clammy skin, muscle cramps, fatigue, dizziness, headache, nausea.
➡️ Move to shade, hydrate, loosen clothing, cool off. Seek help if it doesn't improve in 30–60 min.

🔴 Heat Stroke — a medical EMERGENCY. High body temp (103°F+), hot/dry skin, confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness.
➡️ Call 911 immediately. Cool the body fast. Do NOT give fluids if the person is confused or unconscious.

Prevention is everything:
💧 Hydrate early & often
🧂 Replace electrolytes
☀️ Avoid peak sun hours (10AM–4PM)
🧢 Wear appropriate gear
⏱️ Take breaks in the shade
👀 Look out for each other

Respect nature. Protect yourself. Stay safe out there. 🇺🇸

Big shoutout to FOUNDATION Outdoors for their support. As an all volunteer SAR team we rely on the generosity of the community and corporations to help us remain operationally ready. In the field nutrition that is light weight, great tasting and calorie dense is important. Foundation Outdoors checks all those boxes at a great price point.
