BIG NEWS FOR STATION 2 — FROM LEASED LAND TO DISTRICT OWNERSHIP
Did you know that the fire station located in Frydek is San Felipe-Frydek Volunteer Fire Department Station 2?
Station 2 has served our community for decades. Around 1996, the station was constructed on approximately 0.75 acres of leased property. While that arrangement provided our department with a much-needed station, the terms of the lease limited the improvements the Fire Department and Austin County ESD #1 could do with the site.
That has now changed.
In late August 2026, Austin County Emergency Services District No. 1officially closed on the purchase of approximately 2.172 acres where our existing Station 2 is located.
This is exciting news not only for the San Felipe-Frydek VFD and ESD #1, but for the citizens we are proud to serve throughout District 1.
Owning this property provides additional space for the District to consider future station expansion, apparatus and equipment storage, training facilities, and other improvements as the district grows. Any future projects would be subject to applicable approvals and available funding as the district continues to grow.
Property ownership may also assist with future grant applications for station improvements. Eligibility would depend on the ownership or site-control requirements of each grant program. Investing significant grant dollars into permanent improvements can be difficult when an organization does not own the property where those improvements would be made.
As Fire Chief, I would like to thank everyone who assisted with the property acquisition, our volunteers for their continued service, and our community for its ongoing support of the department. This purchase provides additional space for the District to plan for the future resource and facility needs of the volunteers who serve our community.
And most importantly, thank you to our citizens and community for continuing to support our mission.
Our district is growing, and with that growth comes greater responsibility. We are proud to serve our growing community and plan for future service needs while continuing to answer the call today.
This property is more than 2.172 acres. The purchase places Station 2 under District ownership and provides additional space to plan for the community’s future emergency service needs.
