Yesterday Governor Newsom vetoed SB1257, the Health and Safety for All Workers Act. His veto denies domestic workers the right to health and safety protections at work, protections which are more crucial now than ever in this pandemic and with wildfires raging in many parts of the state. His veto has life and death consequences for the 300,000 domestic workers across CA, for their families and for the clients who depend on them.
Please join us with the CA domestic workers coalition in SF TODAY at noon to show Governor Newsom what you think of his decision to turn his back on domestic workers, now when they need support more than ever.

100 reusable masks on their way to - Peoples’ Association of Workers and Immigrants. PAWIS is a grassroots organization of Filipino workers and immigrants since 2001. They have been providing support throughout the East Bay to Filipino caregivers and essential workers through PPE, care packages, community connection, and the sharing of accurate information around COVID-19. Their weekly drop-offs aim to combat the fear and isolation from shelter-in-place and quarantine. They’ve also been fighting and advocating for the safety and well-being of cruise ship workers, many of which were Filipino seafarers, since the beginning of the virus outbreak. Thanks for their hard work and sharing these masks with the community. 💙

“I think it is urgent to include domestic workers in occupational health and safety protections not only because of what we are seeing during this pandemic, but also in normal times,” shares Emily Uy, a homecare worker. I had to pay almost $ 7,000 out of pocket for a chiropractor to treat my back after I was seriously injured lifting a client who was losing muscle control and unable to move on her own, ”she adds.

A wildfire tore through the area where Socorro a domestic worker leader Graton Day Labor Center (Centro Laboral de Graton) worked as a housecleaner. She had to clean up the ashes while it was still very smokey. Her lungs ached & nose bled. When this KALW reporter asked the head of Cal/OSHA about it he said that if she wasn't a domestic worker her employer would have had to provide a mask and the way she was treated would be illegal, but because she is not included in Cal/OSHA its not.
Its time to pass .

Every year, the president of the Philippines delivers a State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Makibaka! Huwag matakot! @ San Francisco, California
